Have you read Slicefixer's "Encyclopedia Texarkana"?

Recommended Posts

I just wanted to let all you "slicefixer" fans out there know that I featured a blog article on him and his e-book "Encyclopedia Taxarkana." If you've been looking for the PDF e-book, you can download it at the link below. You'll find the downloadable file at the end of my bog article.

http://www.playbettergolfblog.com/?p=555

I had a hard time finding "ET" on the net, so after talking to slicefixer, he gave me permission to post the book for everyone to have easy access to.

Out of curiosity, how many people have already read his book or have religiously followed his posts on GolfWRX?

Cool, I pass the PDF on to fellow golfers when I come across curious ones. I like the blog post, but for the record Geoff did not write the PDF document. It was another forum member who took his posts on here and organized it into a readable format.

Of course I have read it (and recommended it), maybe you should make this a poll option? so people can vote yes or no on it?

Good call on the poll option. I edited the post to include it.

In regards to the PDF, are you sure about the document just being a compilation of his posts? The file I'm offering on my blog is an e-book with a background on Geoff's golf career and a detailed table of contents that divides the book into various sections with in depth writings on each subject. I've seen the document you were talking about, but I didn't even bother reading it all after I found the true "Encyclopedia Texarkana." You may want to check out my download to see if we're talking about the same thing. I asked Geoff for permission to post it because it seemed he was the author. He even thanked me for asking him before offering it to others for download.

I could still be wrong, but I'm pretty sure he wrote the PDF I have on my blog.

Yes I am sure slice did not take the very long post document and make it into the e-book form. I have read so many threads on here, but there is a thread which mentions who put together the eBook form. Don't get me wrong, it is all of slice's information that he took the time to write on this forum, he just didn't format it into that PDF is all I was saying. I also have personally heard this from slice in person. It is awesome that he took the time to put all the info out there in the forum, then someone took the time to format it into the eBook version, great read!

EDIT: TEConnor organized the chaptered version, what we are calling the eBook. I will try to find the original thread on this later if I have the energy :)

Wow! That just goes to show how much golf advice Slice has put out on the GolfWRX forum to fill a PDF that prints out to almost 50 pages. And Kudos to whoever compiled his info so beautifully. It's really a smooth read. Now if only I could make it all work for my swing. =) I really wish he lived in Southern Cali so I could work with him. As much as I love the challenge of being my own swing coach, it would be nice to work with someone whose instruction I actually trust. It's hard to find a teacher I actually trust.

Thanks for the down-low asprin! I'm jealous you've gotten to talk to Slice in person. If I lived in the area, I think would just sleep on the driving range he teaches at. haha!

The Slice-o-pedia came about because a fine gentleman here on golfwrx compiled the entirety of Slicefixer's (aka Geoff Jones) posts into a 200+ page unabridged file. The file was very, very helpful for many of us, but many others found its length to be an impediment. Hence, I took a few weeks to sort through all of the posts (through Feb 2008, as I recall) and boiled them down into a single file. KevCarter added the page numbers and contents/table. While the original posts were obviously composed by Geoff, I hacked at them like Ricky Barnes in Bethpage Fescue to cut things down. The presentation, editing, and re-organization of the slice-o-pedia was my doing and, trust me, Geoff could and will do much better. Geoff and Rob (Rankoutsider) are working on an actual book that will make the slice-o-pedia seem like the Yugo. So please keep an eye out for this book later this year.

Cheers,

Tim

Awesome! Thanks for all the hard work Tim! The "Encyclopedia Texarkana" is so well put together I couldn't even tell it wasn't a cohesive document.

Parker19822 and Slicefixer,

Just wanted to say thanks. Got a lot from it already, and still reading it.

Coincidentally, for a while now, I was trying to add a fade to my game, but the motion I was doing was fighting against my draw swing, so I decided to try and create a slight fade with my same draw swing, as it seemed like some pros on youtube were hitting fades with an inside-out swing. I started to have some success with it.

Then I read Encyclopedia Texarcana and found out what I am trying to do is a fade with an inside-out swing, a knucklefade. Some of the stuff about it, I found by trial and error, but now I know much more about what are the things I have to do to properly make that shot.

Again, thanks a lot. :)

It is great work for sure. If anyone is interested, Geoff will be in Georgia the first week in April. Contact me for more information.

Everyone that has read the Encyclopedia, should get a copy of the book whether they read it or not. Not many give away that much information in writing not to mention the personal time he spent with almost anyone that contacted him.

I've read it (both long and short version) and I even worked on my own version for a while. Readers should be aware that there are a couple of small problems with it (depending on the version). For example, the descriptions of Cp and Cf releases are backwards. Geoff was doing a lot of posting at 2 and 3 am when he had severe insomnia and some things didn't come out always as he intended! lol Other errors or incorrect points of emphasis may have been in the recompilation of further edited versions. I recently saw a version posted where the editor added his own interpretation (and some nice graphics) of things in certain sections so things may have drifted from Geoff's original intent, which is why I look forward to the book!

Geoff's insight was wonderful, and the work TECONNER did in organizing it made it finally readable and very helpful to everybody. He must have spent 100 hours on that project and I can't thank both TECONNER and Geoff enough. I hope they are still working hard on the book, from what I have seen and heard, it will be one of the best ever written for both students and teachers. Really a shame Geoff's work is starting to get lost in the shuffle here...

To clarify, should the correct definitions in the ET be that CF is the hitting/down the line release and CP is the swinging/releasing left release?
Yes

I spotted another error when I skimmed part of it earlier today. When he talks about setting up with a driver he said that your left shoulder (for a righty) should be about 2 inches outside a vertical line from your left ankle. It should be inside the line (left when viewed face-on). There are a few other small ones (or explanations that are easily misinterpreted) like this that I can't recall at the moment.

My daughter and I just returned from spending the day with Geoff in Warwick, NY. I brought a good buddy with me who is a scratch hc and very successful amateur tournament player in NJ. He was blown away by Geoff's detailed analysis of his swing. Before we left, my friend was compressing the ball with leverage and producing a sound & feel that he said he never had previously experienced... (and I'm telling you this guy is a very accomplished player)

Geoff is really an incredibly good teacher. If you haven't read the E.T., you should.
