G400 MAX vs. G400 LST

I posted in the G400MAX forum but thought I would post my thoughts/findings in this thread as well as it's more appropriate.

I went in for a fitting yesterday at the Canadian equivalent of Club Champion, with the intent of walking out with a G400MAX with the appropriate shaft combo but I ended up getting the best/most consistent results with the G400 LST (8.5 Degrees).

I was all over the place with the Max with a two way miss in compared to the LST - I tested about 7 Different shafts with both heads and ended up with the LST (Never thought I would get on with a 8.5 Head) paired with a HC Project X Even Flow Blue (65G 6.0) - this was also surprising as I've always been an X-Stiff player (Previous shaft was a Tour AD BB 7X) and my swing speed definitely hasn't slowed down - but I feel I may not have as aggressive of a transition as I've been working on the timing of that.

See Numbers Below with the LST/Evenflow Blue (Working on getting that Angle of Attack more consistent) - These were also the last 9 swings of the day after going back and forth and after at least 100 drives - I can't wait for the club to get built and arrive.

I had an outdoor trackman fitting today and tried both the max and the lst. I am not one of the monster hitters on this forum, although I do play with a lot of them and have gotten used to the real estate between our drives. 235 carry 260 total has historically been a very good drive for me.

Compared to my gamer Cobra biocell on the trackman today the max was a mild improvement... Too high spin ~2800 ball speed low 140s, launch ~15°. Basically a wash with my current gamer and no way I was going to spend money on it.

To my surprise the fitter brought me the lst in 8° (hosel turned down 1/2°) with a stiff Attas Coool shaft in it. Now like I said I am not a high swing speed long ball hitter, so I was skeptical I could even get it off the ground.

Holy crap I was knocking the tar out of it, for me, and Dead straight. ~1900 spin ball speed 146 launch 14° easily putting it out in the 270-280 total range. If this was on an indoor simulator I would have not believed it, but it was outdoor on a trackman.

We cut it down to 44.5" and it was even better, I felt like I couldn't miss it.

Took it out to play 9 holes with it, hit 6/7 fairways and averaged 272... That is a game changer for me, my old average was around 245. All of this measured with arccos. I almost joined the 300 club on 9 when I hit it 299 right down the pipe (so f in close)

So besides bragging on myself here my point is never underestimate a proper fitting with a real pro. I never in a million years would have thought of this combo for myself and apparently it is freaking outstanding for me.

I have gmax 9.0 currently and love it. I do hit it some times to high, but never really have a ton of spin on it. Would you recommend the 10.0 or 8.5 LST?

Thanks,

Kevin

I have a 9* max and an 8.5 LST. I really like both. Max launches a good clip higher with the same shaft in it- If you disregard the .5 difference in loft (fully knowing that there may be a difference or not depending on tolerances), I'd still say the Max launches a good bit higher, visually. I will say, for me, the 8.5 LST head definitely doesn't launch too low.

Anyone tried the Pro Orange in both the lst and max? Any thoughts?

I have tried both in a PO 70TX and both performed very well but the LST paired better for me. I have since put the Max in a KK DC XT 70TX and very happy with this combo. Very accurate and knocked the spin off more than the PO, which I need.

I spent a good amount of time on trackman with both heads recently in the exact same shaft.

I can see why people love the max. It’s great. For me, the forgiveness wasn’t much different between the two of them. The spin and height was higher than I liked with the max. But it did carry a bit further.

The LST looks better and I thought the Max looked a bit closed (9 head on big minus) in comparison. I didn’t love the bigger head.

In the end, if I was low ball player, I probably would have gotten the max. But the LST is solid all around.
