B330 RX current vs prior generations

I can help with a quick run-down of the differences between versions:

The original RX was introduced in 2008

In 2010 the core was softened by 7% and the mantle layer was reformulated to reduce excess spin. The RXS was introduced in 2010, so to create separation between these two models the spin on the RX was reduced so there would be a noticeable difference in performance.

For 2012 the traditional dimples were replaced with Dual Dimples. The mantle layer was tweaked again to reduce driver spin. Approach and greenside spin remained the same.

The 2014 version had the new Hydro-Core Technology which increased gradation of the core by 30%. Driver spin was reduced by 2%, iron and wedge spin remained the same.

2016 had the biggest changes. The core was changed to the AmaTour Core which has an even steeper gradient than the Hydro-Core for increased ball speed. The overall compression remained the same as the 2014 model. SlipRes cover technology was introduced on this version as well, which decreased spin off the driver and increased spin with wedges and around the green. Durability was also improved due to the SlipRes cover.

I have also attached a timeline chart of the RX which shows when each version was released, the sidestamp and the packaging. I hope this helps.

I have a stash of 2014, 2016, just shy of 12dz between them and couple dozen of 2017/18 that I received as a gift this year. I love the ball and I don't feel I lose or gain anything of significance with either the 2014 or 2016. I have yet to play the 2017/2018 ball I will take a sleeve out tis weekend ad report back.

I played one round with the yellow 2018. I liked the white 2014 feel better. Performance wise, I can't say if there is a difference. Maybe I like firmer feeling balls, because I love the feel of ProV1. My swing speed is 90 driver, 75 seven iron.

I played the New 2018 RX yesterday and I like he ball equally as much a the prior generations. he 2018 feels slightly softer of the irons IMO with equal distance and no real difference in spin off the wedges into the green. The driver feel and distance differences are negligible however I would give the 2018 a couple yards advantage. This is all good news from my perspective, I want a ball that is available generation to generation that provides predicable playability. Thumbs up Bridgestone!

fwiw, I've played the B330-Rx exclusively from its introduction, all the way to current model.

For my swing, Driver 90mph ... high spin/high launch with irons ... the B330-Rx has just been a great fit. In my opinion, they got this ball absolutely spot on with the last generation B330-Rx (model prior to new model new name BRx). I think this was the 2016 version. That 2016 version, was simply perfect. Perfect softness, perfect driver and iron spin and very VERY forgiving.

Perfect in every way. Then along comes the new 2018 model ... the BRx version. Gave it a try and I thought it was a step backwards. Definitely firmer, as a call to Bridgestone confirmed ... general compression rating was up to high 60's (from low 60's in 2016 version) Different dimple pattern made the ball a bit to low trajectory for me as well. So I'm stocking up on 2016's as well as some of you are. My favorites are the B logo 2016 balls. They switched from the old B330-Rx logo on the 2016 ball ... to the current B logo very late in 2016 production .... these are the ones you want !!!!

Hmmm, did not notice the trajectory difference. Well, maybe, now that you mention it. I'll pay more attention next time. You talking irons, driver, or both? I might have seen it on irons. I'm a 10 index, so sometimes these things are just random strike things, lol.

After a few rounds, I'm not liking the 2018. For me the problem is feel vs the 2014's I was playing. It feels dead. It does not feel harder to me. If anything it feels softer. I don't know but I don't like it.

Distances are normal. Trajectory might be lower on short irons, which is probably good. Greenside spin is okay but no threat to a tour ball. Durability is good. No flyers. As as aside, the yellow hue is pretty blah. For this particular yellow, I'd probably stick with white.

Even though I only paid $25.99 a dozen, I'm going to send back the 3 un-used dozen. I don't want to have to work my way through 4 dozen of these.

I will agree that the yellow on these is kind of weak in terms of brightness. When I ordered I was expecting a Truvis yellow or something along those lines, this seems more faded. The ball is nice but I feel like I had more confidence when I was playing the Chromesoft, which I will go back to after this dozen is gone.

I have loved this ball right up until the current edition. I think the 2018 version lost its higher trajectory and feel.

That's my point exactly. As I stated above, I've played every generation of the B330-Rx as it was released from day 1. There was something always familiar about each new generation ... that made you say ... "yep .. this is the Rx ... " and then it went ahead and did something ... sometimes a few things ... just a bit better than the prev gen that it replaced.

With this new BRx model ... I did not even recognize it as the next gen Rx. It was totally unrecognizable. Didn't feel like an Rx. Didn't play like an Rx. Didn't even taste like an Rx. I gave the new BRx model a few rounds ... but have abandoned them and ... again ... as stated above .. have just stocked up on the late version of the 2016 B330-Rx (with the B stamp logo). They got that version (2016) right on the money. So I'm gonna stick with it for as long as possible. Just sayin'.

I’m almost out of the 2017 RX iteration which has been a great ball for me. Little concerned about the reports on the new one so I may stock up on last year’s.
