KBS 610 Wedge Shaft

I have been wanting to re shaft my wedges for a while now. I have KBS $ Taper stiff shafts in my irons. My wedges have TT Black Gold shafts (a blast from the past!). I was thinking of going with R+ wedge shafts. I actually prefer a softer feeling shaft. I think my 6 iron swing speed is around 86. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks

I think you’d be fine with the 120S. I don’t think you’d want to go lighter in the wedges than your irons and the 610 isn’t overly stiff at all. My 6-iron SS is around 90.

I haven't swung S-tapers, but if they feel right for you I'd so stiff 120 610s. I'm not on team softer wedges though, not unless you're in X flex irons.

I've been reading a lot on this wedge shaft and unfortunately I can't find a demo to try. I was fitted in irons for C-taper lite 115X shafts at +1/4" and it loads and feels perfectly to me. I've always been between stiff and x but play x to help prevent it from turning left and liked the extra 5 grams. Now I'm going to put a set of 610 shafts in next set of wedges (either SM7 or MD4..would love thoughts on your experience on either) and curious if wanted the 120 S or 125 S+. I did hit a bunch of shafts today at range into a strong head wind and freezing cold conditions and my favorite two I tried were Project X 6.0 then the Dynamic Gold S400. The S200 spun too much and the hi rev was too tip soft. The DG feels heavier which causes me to come over the top more that I don't do with the lighter project X 6.0 shaft. I will add I have never liked Project X in any iron shaft though.

You’ve answered your own question. The 120S has the lighter weight you say you prefer of the 6.0.

Most people tend to prefer slightly softer shafts in their wedges than in their irons as well. I wouldn’t even consider the 125 S+.

smart choice. 120 s would be a nice fit.

I own and play both 120s and 125s+. For two different wedge sets. Weight difference is more noticeable than flex.

Shafts provide a very direct feel.

I just ordered the 610 S+,125 G version in my wedges. Last few wedge sets I've played the DG S400. I'll say this, I feel like the 610 plays a bit firmer or more linear than the S400. No real difference in distance, spin or launch.

I was pleasantly surprised with shots around the green, even with the firmness of the 610 wedge shaft that shots around the green were very easy to execute.

I think the 120S would be a good match. The CT Lite are not overly stiff in X and if you liked S400 you should like the 120S. They are lighter than S400 but have more feel and load to them. The 125 S+ feel quite firm to me, much moreso than S400.

I spoke with KBS rep today and he recommended staying away from this shaft even in stiff. He actually recommended the kbs tour pw shaft in 120x flex. he said the 610 is stiffer than the c-taper.

Any update to the wedge shaft chosen? or results?

Transitioning to CTL X as well and was told by a very reputable fitter that the 'R' 610 would be a good match due to weight and flex designation is a lesser concern.

Will likely find out the hard way through trial and error as I have used both lighter/heavier and same flex/weaker in previous sets.

Any updates on the shaft chosen to match the CTL X?

I am transitioning to CTL X as well and a very reputable fitter suggested 'R' flex 610s to match weight better as it was a more important variable.

Any comments on whether the 'R' will feel too loose compared to the CTL X?

I ended up finding a fitter with a plethora of wedges with different shafts and loved the dg spinner shaft.

Just ordered some 610 shafts for my wedges.

I had a questions regarding grip thickness... These shafts have a butt diameter of 0.61 rather than 0.6 inches. As standard I play a midsize grip, if I use a standard size grip on my wedges how many layers of tape will I need to get it back up to midsize size?

Thanks

Hey guys,

I'm a little back and forth on these. I'm a pretty high spin guy and just moved over from KBS Tours (S) in my irons fairly recently to Project X (6.0), and I love them. The problem is now, that I tend to notice that the window from P to my 52* is WAY too high, and they get eaten up by the wind, or suck back way too far on the greens.

Would moving to the 610 in both my 52 and 58 (both have S200) in the 120 bring them low enough and bring the spin down, or would I be better off in the 125?

Jury is still out. It could maybe be a touch lower spin, but it’s really solid on finesse stuff. One hops pretty consistently when I want it, and can take spin off when I like to too. Seems to be a good mix, but I could see where something a little firmer in the lower stuff would be nicer for touch shots.

The 120 is plenty stiff. It’s a stout shaft. They will never be described as a shaft with play in it. It’s for aggressive swingers of the wedges in my opinion. I wish they were around 10 years ago when I was still strong. I liked the shaft and it brought flight down for me but I just don’t swing as aggressive on the wedges these days.

Yeah I'd start with the 120 gram in the 52-58 and then think about the 46 later. I don't use my PW the way you do. It's more like a 10 iron for me. The only thing is if you're sensitive to grip diameter is the 610 has a bigger butt. I can feel it under the grip and if I was going to go back to them I'd use a thinner grip or stretch them out.

So, if I currently play the X Tour 130’s in my irons 4-PW (my SS is 92-95 mph with a 7 iron) and want to have more feel around the greens (while keepIng a similar weight to my 130’s), are the S+ 610’s (125) the way to go, or are the X 610’s (130) in my 50 and 55 the answer?

I really never hit a full L wedge; so, I think I could get away with the S+; but, I’m not sure about the 55 and 50.

The KBS website says the KBS Wedge shaft maintains a similar feel to the Tours; but, I think I’d like the 610’s better, as I play on mostly soft greens and have to fight spinning them off most of the time (when I had DG X 100’s).

I played the 120g when I played the 120g Kbs tours and they were definitely more stout and both lower launching and lower spinning. They actually feel similar to the tour v 125 I play in my wedges now which is also what I play in my irons.
