Kinematic Sequencing - 2 Weeks to Improve

I am sure what you are saying is valid from a certain point of view semantically.

But why is it called a golf SWING?

The shaft is a flexible medium not rigid. A crowbar is rigid.

A weight on a string swings. To speed the weight up power is applied from the center. As it swings back and forth you don’t speed up the weight by pushing on the string in between the weight and the center.

Serious this single misunderstanding is a problem for a lot of people!

The only reason I am pointing it out is because before reading Ernest JonesbI didn’t understand it. So maybe someone else out there suffers now as I did before!

To speed up the golf club you absolutely are pushing on the grip. The club is swung only by applying a force/torque to the club. That is the definition of leverage and a lever. There are both pulling and pushing forces during the swing. And a lever absolutely can bend from the forces being applied.

You do realize that swinging is a verb used to describe a type of motion and a lever is a noun right? The golf club is a lever whereas the whole motion is a swing.

So, in my first session I learned the importance of the hips leading the torso. I worked diligently on that and reaped the benefits. Best swing with the SSG Red club has been 106 and my top swing speed with my actual (cut down) driver hitting a ball has been 102.

I was wondering if the second session would bring a similar step change.

Just starting to get the feeling of my trunk leading the arms, vs. in one single movement, but already my SSG red swings hit a peak of 106 two nights ago, and then a new high of 108 tonight at the range.

Better still, my peak swing speed with my driver went from the previous 102 to a new peak of 106! Only 3 swings were at 106 and none were good strikes, but I hit almost two dozen straight functional shots at 105 MPH, which I can scarcely believe.

It's not just the K-vest work, but in combination with SSG and ideas and concepts I've grasped from iTeach, Clevited, Flushem, Monte, Hawkeye and others, I'm reaping the benefits in my golf game.

Sequence is just part of the equation to create speed. The term “Kinematic sequence” is wrong when looking only at rotation, since kinematics is all motion without considering forces. It was a made-up term. It’s the rotational sequence you’re working on now.

Lateral and vertical motions also contribute to swing speed, and they need to match the person. There is no ideal ratio of each of the motions that applies to everyone.

That’s why golf is hard, and teaching golf well is even harder. :)

i don’t need no stinkin’ shift key

Yep, it's only part, but it's a part that the amateur like me is often quite bad at. We don't necessarily lack force, but without a sequenced motion I wasn't transferring my forces efficiently to the golf ball.

It's a term they invented to describe what they're seeing and it doesn't definitionally bother me as much as "Is it a thing that works?". You're right. I haven't seen anything that looks at the forces without at least addressing the speed of rotation as well as the timing. I assume that I'm the thing that generates the forces that either accelerate certain segments, or cause the deceleration of others.

There are definitely other motions that contribute to speed as well as what the brain does, E.g. SSG also works great for me and helps with fluid motion. The only study I've heard of seems to suggest it works by speeding up the pressure traces and making their shift more efficient, without actually increasing vertical forces. It also tricks the brain into letting the body perform the swing faster. Other studies suggest that increasing forces is at least correlated to faster golf swings, if not causative. That's something I deliberately practice with SSG and normal practice swings.

For me it (kinematic sequence) is something that works profoundly for me, so I don't mind if they call it furry elephant cakes. It effectively teaches me things I interpret to me as timing, flow, and fluid motion. I seem to be able to take a 'feel' to the course better than I can take a position to the course so I'm loving it!

Finally, these three things (kinematic sequence, overspeed training, and greater force generation using the legs) all seem to work hand-in-hand. They don't seem to fight each other. I'm thankful to be taking this route vs. my brain being in a constant philosophical turmoil over whether to use instructor A's right elbow move vs. instructor B's special secret to maintaining lag. Horses for courses I guess.
