I think the best change for me so far is going back to a familiar driver. After a couple of experiments, I went back to a long time gamer and gained some consistency back.

I went back to my Ping Nome TR and my putting has been great, a close second has been going back to my Ping G30 Driver, I have been finding fairways and making putts. New equipment isn’t always better

Upgraded a 15 year old sonartec 19* hybrid that I thought was irreplaceable for a callaway apex hybrid 18*. Wow. I also just replaced some 11 year old callaway 2007 x forged irons for the new Mizuno MP18 SC set 4-PW and they are amazing. Since I didn’t get a three iron with the new set I was able to get a Callaway X forged UT 21* and so far I absolutely love it. Won a new 2018 Scotty Newport Select and still learning to use as my previous putter was a mallet Tank 7 but it’s really nice on long putts.

 

So, everything but my driver and wedges changed. It’s been a fun year!!

Really did not think things could get better than the Epic, but the the Rogue is a beast, My misses are better and longer and it is easier for me to launch with a less spin. I have picked up about 10 yards of carry.

The only equipment related change I have made this year was to stop buying stuff. I emptied out the garage and narrowed it down to 14 clubs, 9 of which I actually carry.

 

I have really started to realize that the majority of the stuff out there is the same for me.. Its like a chef buying knew knives every two months. The food is coming out exactly the same so why bother. After a decade of club hoeing, the thrill is gone. I'm kind of bored with the game in general.

Switched entirely graphite shafts (irons, wedges, etc.). Does seem to be helping with general wear and tear with no loss of performance.

Replaced my odyssey 1w with Evnroll ER6. It took 4-5 rounds to get used to the speed but it was worth it. It's such a forgiving putter , the mishits on longer putts are closer to the hole. The visual alignment makes the 5 footers very easy to make. According to strokes gained my putting is at the same level as a 4 handicap now, while I am a 13 handicap. Need to get my long game in order to shave some strokes off.

Replaced a G15 3wood with a new TM M3.

 

What a mistake it was waiting as long as I did. The M3 is quite literally 40 yards longer.

Buying my iBlades. Much better distance control and accuracy than my iE1s (for me anyway).

 

The topper was installing Paderson Kinetixx TS-I shafts in them. Best graphite shafts I have swung.

My irons. Went with lighter softer shafts and smaller heads and now I'm hitting my irons better than I ever have. Putter too. I've got SO much confidence with this stick now.

Ditching my hybrid for a 5 wood. So much easier to hit it's like cheating. Not sure if it's because Ping or V2 shaft, which I always ignored. Actually, that was the first time I tried a Ping wood. Now I'm switching everything, including a brand new set of I500 after years playing Mizuno blades and driver. I'm in the lookout for a 3 wood on BST.

tossed the hybrid out of the bag and picked up a T-MB 2 Iron. Consistently able to hit it off the tee on tight holes or layup holes with much more confidence than a hybrid.

Swapping out a 15* 3 wood and two hybrids for a 4 wood, 7 wood and 4 iron.

I swapped my SM6 60 (bent to 59) M grind for a SM7 58 D grind that I got fit for (the fitting was amazing). I'm absolutely deadly with it around the greens.

 

Second place would be putting a graphite shaft in my Srixon U45. Love that club!!

Accepted post surgery limitations. Went fromTitleist ( loved like a pet) 905R to a 12* 915 D2 with senior shaft and found some notable distance returns

Putting the JPX 900 forged irons in for Nike Vapor Fly Pro and T7 wedges in for the mediocre SM6 wedges.

Tossing out the 15* 3-wood that previously had a permanent spot in my bag, It has been very lightly used, seeing as on some courses it would rarely come into play wither from the tee deck or on the ground.

 

It's allowed me to fill in with a 3-club 5W/2h/3h/4h/4i combination that suits my gapping a bit better on the courses I play most often. I haven't totally gotten rid of the 15* 3W option though, I've merely stopped giving it a guaranteed place in the bag, relegating it to an optional status along with my strong 3W and the other clubs mentioned previously.

Upgraded the G30 for a G400, gained more distance & breaking 80 more often.

 

My G30 with white tie firm flex shaft was replaced by G400 max with red tie stiff shaft.

 

My last two handicap index revisions are the only ones in my lifetime to have just one digit.

 

It may not last, and it took 32 years of play to happen, but it makes the thought of retirement golf even more appealing.
