Need Driver Advice! Been out of the Game...

Big A HG

Recommended Posts

I've been out of the game for the most part the last few years (fam, kids, work, you know the drill). Hopped back on the horse this year and have been hitting it as good as ever...mostly (inconsistent driving). I used to be employed at a golf store 10+ years ago as a college gig, but am now out of the loop as to what's hot and what's not. My current driver is a Crobra L4V X (if that tells you anything). I'm loving the rest of my golf game, but thought I'd take a look at replacing the formerly trusty Cobra.

Here's a little about my game and what I'm looking for:

-Mid single-digit handicap - right-handed

-Prefer straight ball off the tee or maybe a little cut

-Miss off the tee is a hook

-I prefer the look and playability of players clubs in my bag, except driver

-Want max-forgiveness, but nothing that sets up or promotes my mishits left

-Swing speed around 105

-When hitting it well, I'm mid-launch with mid-spin rates...would like to keep the mid-launch and keep or reduce spin if possible.

-I'm open-minded to used or year or two old models. I don't need the latest and greatest of the year.

So, what's out there that's forgiving, but promotes more of a fade or neutral than setting up as a draw?

Thank you for any advice!

Played the Epic last year and switched to the Rogue but after being inconsistent and missing left with the Rogue went with the Ping G400 Max not as long as Rogue but the G400 Max is a fairway finder.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. The other day I stopped by a golf shop and was able to take a few swings with a few variations of the Ping G400 inside on a launch monitor. It really had a harsh feel IMO, and unless I really nutted it, everything felt like a mishit. I stopped by the golf course for a quick nine, and lo and behold there was a Callaway demo day going on. I hit a couple of balls quickly before the round, and then stopped back after the round and hit for about a half hour more on a Trackman going through a lot of the different options. I was really digging the Rogue Sub Zero 10.5 dialed down a degree with the Hzrdus shaft (6.0, 63g). I'm not sure I ever felt that comfortable with a driver during a range session before. I've never been a big Callaway fan, but I'm not sure I really want to hit anything else at this point.

G400 LST, M3 or Rogue Sub Zero. From what I've seen, the SubZ is the lowest spinning of the bunch.
