Followed up a round of 78 ...with a 91 !?

J2putts

Recommended Posts

Warmed up , hit it well. Step in first tee ...Hit it left , in woods , lost ball and the disaster just continued . Started with back to back doubles , doubled 8th , made a 7 on par 3 12th. Pars on next two holes , then a 8 on par 5 , bogey, bogey, double to finish. Strange thing is that swing didn't feel awful. It was just a perfect storm for a bad score i guess. Multiple times I just missed fairway and had awful lies. The 7 i made on par 3 ..water in front of green . 160 to pin ..group in front of us took forever and then hung around just off the green literally for 2 to 3 minutes. I got aggravated and hit with them just off the green and put my shot just short in the drink . Idk..I wasn't really that upset about the round ..I just kinda laughed it off. I've felt more aggravated with how I was swinging with rounds that I've shot 78-80. It was the worst score I've shot in 2 years.

My last 6 rounds were between 74-78. Swing feeling good, putter was great. Go into round 7 and couldnt hit a green to save my life and had more three putts than I care to mention. Shake it off and regrouped. Round 8 back to 76. Golf is such a fickle game but i guess thats why we come back. For the challenge it presents each and every round.

This has happened to me early in the season when I’m not sharp and the wind starts to blow. Last season my 3rd / 4th rounds of the year were something like 72-89 on back to back days. Same course. Slightly tougher wind but nothing insane. Less likely to happen this time of year but not out of the question on a tough course with tough conditions.

I've shot 79,81,81,76,80,78 ..my last 6 rounds . Agreed it was golf just slapping me in the face to remind me who is boss lol

66-81-69 are my last 3 tournament rounds. Unfortunately the 81-69 were in the club championship I was defending.

You cannot win a tournament on the first day, but if you are dumb enough, you can certainly lose it.

As said above, golf is hard.

The worst spread I can recall is a friend of mine who is a 2 go 69-91 in back to back rounds. Was a few years ago, and he was my partner that day. I still will bring it up for fun sometimes. :)

Had it the other way this weekend. Had 86 followed by 69. First time ever I had a 80's followed by a 60's for me. Had a 5 over on the fourth hole that scrambled the brain on day 1. After that the misses were not that bad, but so regular that it became funny later. Tried my best to the end of the round.

I call them Reminder Rounds. Feeling pretty good about yourself? Hitting the ball great? Dropping putts all over the place?

My home course in the early spring is fairly forgiving until the tall grass, weeds and bush starts to grow in. Then it's all about keeping it in or close to the fairway, bad bounces or shots into the bush/water kills your game. On days when I'm playing well I can finish with the same ball and occasionally play 3 rounds without losing a ball and on those days I can break 80. Then there's days when you struggle with your game and it's all about how many golf balls you lose, when you've lost 5 in a round, 91 isn't a bad score, feel your pain, been there.

I've got a friend who is a pga professional who holds the ominous (and unofficial) record of greatest turnarounds on back to back days. Pro-ams on back to back days, first day he shot a 95(!!) despite playing the last 6 holes in -1. He admitted he was close to never playing golf again. Next day, different course (easier course mind you) shoots 65 and runs 2nd.... A 30 shot swing overnight. Golf is funny sometimes, he would've had the highest gross score of all the players who played both days but took home top5 money...

Big yawn from me you poor baby.

Earlier this year I went 79-108 back to back on the same course. Shanks are fun.

Boy oh boy after reading these I'm not sure anymore ........

My story goes like this shoot a 101 on Monday at one course. Tuesday in a tournament on the first tee, shank the drive 50 yards behind a tree. Playing safe on the next shot shank it again, finally get to the green for a 6. Not looking good today but it starts to click on the 4 hole a 187yd par 3 with a pin-high 6 iron and a bird. Finish with a 43 on the front. Then I was rolling along was a few pars on the back, no major hick-ups, even an eagle on a short par four. End the back with a 38. 81 for the day best round ever!!! :telephone:

Now as we all know I'm not looking forward to the next round....... :bigwhack:

Follow up to come......Friday maybe. :read:

:golfer:

Spoiler

Stay the Course; and my the Course be with you!

I've shot 78 in a practice round and followed it up with a smooth 92 in competition, including a 12 on the first hole.

That was nice.
