I've played Grey Hawk and Shale Creek a number of time. It's hard for me to get that far north and west with so many courses near the Medina area. I just got hooked on Rawiga. VERY nice course IMO. i also really like the links style feel of Shale. My groomsmen and I played Shale the morning of my wedding. I can't wait to try VotE this upcoming spring.

 

I agree, Shale is a nice track and IMO the back nine really has some nice holes due to better terrain. I've still not made it out to the Quarry although from everything I have heard it is superior to Shale.

 

You will like VotE, however if I was to compare it to a newer course in the area, in terms of routing and shot values, I would say it is more on the level of Blue Heron as opposed to Grey Hawk or Shale. Just a lot of demanding shots off the tee in terms of accuracy - there are only a couple holes you can overpower with length and if you try to do so in the wrong place you are gonna pay for it.

 

Grey Hawk can be demanding off the tee but as long as you keep in in between the mounds you're typically in good shape, and Shale seems to have the most generous landing areas out of all these courses. Maybe I just need to play VotE a couple more times to figure out where the safe misses are. :dntknw:

I really like the changes at VoE, but waiting to see the prices for 2018. I love Shale Creek, Greyhawk’s conditions have gone down in recent years, unfortunately

Thanks for taking the time for the awesome review! I live about 10 min from Valley Of The Eagles, played old spring valley a bunch of times , haven't got out to VOE yet though. Drive by it daily, watched the progress etc, seems to be looking good. Will check it out when the sun comes back out!!! Again, nice review!

i've played Rawiga once and am upset i haven't made it back..Played 18 at Chippewa and saw Rawiga on golfnow for 15$ while i was waiting to hit on 17 so i booked it and made my way there.. really loved the setup and the old timey feel to the course would like to get out there a few more times

So this course finally opened and I went to play it late Saturday afternoon. It definitely needs to grow in a bit, which is to be expected but I liked the course and thought it was in good condition given how new it is.

 

It is a difficult driving course IMO from the black(back) tees, which is what I played, the blue or white tees seem to be much more forgiving. There were lots of holes where you can't miss left at all and absolutely need to hit a fade off the tee due to a large tree just off the front right side of the tee box. It made me uncomfortable on a lot of holes since I struggle to work the ball left to right. The worst thing I can say about the course is that they have gravel cart paths and damn was it dusty out there. My bag was caked in dust by the time the round was over. The routing is interesting to say the least also. Lots of driving from green to tee.
