Best Shot You Hit by Accident

I was in a front bunker on a par 4 in two. Go in, get settled, and attempted a soft splash. But I didn't realize that there was about 1/4" of soft sand on top of some really hard stuff. Thudded into the sand, and promptly skidded under the ball.

 

Oh crap! I knew it was going to the back of the green, but instead, it landed about 8-10" left of the pin and took a crazy hop dead right and landed in the cup. My wedge fell out of my hand.

 

I looked around to see if anyone was around, but I was the sole witness to a very lucky shot.

 

I couldn't do that again on a bet.

Many years ago I played in a Friday afternoon progressive skins game. 1st skin was $2 bucks and it doubled there after. I had played in that game many times and since there were so many good players it often only had a couple of skins. One day all heck breaks loose and there were 7 skins!! Hole outs for eagle, a hole in one and my skin on the 17th hole worth $128 a man.

 

The 17th was a dog leg right par 5 up a steep hill. I hit a big hook off the tee (not unusual for me) and it catches the cartpath to straighten out and goes almost 350y. I get to my ball and my playing partners are razzing me about the “ladies helper” to get out that far. I figure I’d better go for the green or I’d never hear the end of it. There is a Big Oak tree at the front right of the green that protects any front pin placements. Really tricky approach to the green, normally you stay right to avoid it. Anyway, I give my 4w a whack and hook it (no surprise) into the tree fronting the green. But then the group in front of us, who had just cleared, starts whistling and screaming. Here is the description i got, “your the F’n luckiest basted, your balled rolled up the tree trunk, out the branch, fell onto the green and jumped into the hole like a mouse”

 

ALBATROSS BABY !! 16 players including myself, $2370 payday. The guy who hit the hole in one? 2nd hole, won $30, probably cost him close to $500 in drinks.

Holed out from 125. It was my first round with new, longer clubs and I was all over the course. I hit this horrible, thin push hook that hopped once and then clanked in...for a double bogey.

Accidently hit my first and only hole in 1.... skulled ball bounces off bunker lip goes sideways hits flag at full tilt and somehow ends up in cup...

Best ever i tried to flop it over a bunker that had no lip where the hole was close to the bunker. Hit it thin, hit the top of the bunker which slowed it down and popped up next to the hole.

Semi accident, semi intentional?

 

Playing a dog leg right at Kickingbird golf club in Edmond OK from the Tips. I sliced a drive that i started out left because I couldnt stop hitting a slice and left myself 168 from the right rough. I got up to my ball and there were 2 trees about 30 yards away that I would have to hit in between the branches in order to advance the ball near the green or I could hit it low and have my 3rd shot on a par 4 from around 100.

 

I decided to try and go through the two trees. I noticed a bit of left to right wind and hitting through the trees straight wouldve put me about 5 yards off the left side of the green. I told myself if I get it through the trees, keep an open club face and try a semi fade I may get a little help from the wind and end up somewhere on the putting surface.

 

I executed the shot to perfection with more fade than i anticipated. Ball soared through the trees without touching a branch, wind helped and landed 8 ft from the cup. I 2 putted for par. :stink: I couldnt do that again if i tried lol

I once holed a dead shanked pitch for a birdie on a par three.

 

Two tier green, left side was high plateau, pin on right side which was about 4 or 5 feet lower. I was over the green with a down hill pitch. I shanked it dead right, it hit the severe slope, nearly getting to the top. It rolled back down the hill and hit the pin and dropped. Likely turned a sure 5 into a deuce.

Ive scolded so many irons that end up 3 feet or less that ive lost count years ago.

I once wasn't paying enough attention and pulled an 8 instead of wedge. I hit a beautiful, soaring shot that bounced in the (luckily empty) raised patio that overlooked the 18th green.

 

As for the true gist of this thread, I've had many tree shots that split the fairway.

My only hole in one. 209 yard par 3 with a front right hole location. I planned on hitting a high cut 3 hybrid......hit a dead push that never left the flagstick. Kind of embarrassing

When I make a weak shot that turns out good, I look at what I did wrong, think about it for a moment and put it behind me. From that point forward nothing good comes from wallowing in yesterday's failed news.

 

Now, if what I did yesterday was right, that I hold on to, as it helps to have good memories when addressing the ball. Like last weekends round, I made some excellent shots that I will take into this weekend's rounds. :beach:

Streamsong - Red Course. Hole 18 - Par 5. Managed to get on in 2 with a 5i from the fairway. I was a much higher handicap then than I am now so getting on the green in 2 for any hole was basically a miracle, let alone a par 5. Ball must have caught a crazy tail wind because somehow I landed about 4 feet from the pin, which was in the back, for an eagle putt. My dad was my partner on the back 9 against my brother and uncle and this putt would have saved us and broken even on the bet. Read the break about half a cup outside left, but my dad said it was a full cup. I took his advice since he's been playing 50 years longer than I have. Missed the putt, lost the bet, and lost the only opportunity I've had for an eagle.

Show up to an outing and we start on like

Hole 12/13. I’m still half drunk from the night before. Hole happens to be a “straightest to middle” hole. Shank my iron off the tee, hits a tree and Ricochets back ot to the line in the middle of the fairway. Won a $100 gift card because of that.

The first year I played golf I topped a tee shot on a par 3 really bad, didn't even leave the tee box. I was really mad already so walked up an just slashed at it not even trying to make a shot really...jarred it

Was playing a 490 yard par 5 with the cart path crossing the fair way about 340 out from the tee box. Hit a great drive, hits a sprinkler head on the fly, then then cart path, then an other sprinkler head. Top it all off the course was playing fast/dry.

 

Practically on the fringe on a par 5 after that.............and I par it.......

Pulled hooked drive over into the trees. I'm completely blocked out from the green. About 30 yards ahead there's like a 12 foot gap between the trees that I'm going to try and throw a low hook through with the idea that I might get it to roll up close to the right front bunker. I announce to my playing partners that I'm hitting through the trees so watch out. I pull the crud out of the shot and it went through what looked like a 2 inch gap between some other trees and ended up a foot from the cup.

 

My playing partners were none the wiser.

First time playing a course, 200 something uphill par 3 with the backside of the clubhouse directly behind the green.

 

Initially I’m thinking 6 iron as it does not appear to be a drastic elevation change.

 

Member I’m playing with in our foursome calls me out and declares that there is no way I’m getting there with a 6 or even a 5, very adamant about it. So I take his “advice” and pull a 4.

 

Flush it, great ball flight looking nice, member says “you’ll like that”. Ball flys the green and hits the club house and bounces back to the fringe.

 

Chip and a putt for my par.

 

Guess it was a 6 after all, but a par is a par.

 

Funny he didn’t offer any club selection advice the rest of the round.

Both my first bird and par were complete accidents during my first year of playing.

 

- The first par was on a 380yd tree lined Par 4. I hit a slice off the tee and hit a tree on the right side of the fairway and bounced to the middle of the fairway. i then proceeded to pull my approach into the trees on the left of the green and it hits a branch and bounces out to the fringe. I calmly two putted for my first par. Golf is easy.

 

- My first bird was a 150yd Par 3 over water. I hit a very hard top that bounced four times over the pond, up the hill and onto the green 5 feet past the pin. I hit the knee-knocker downhill putt for my first bird. Golf is easy.

18th on Burnside (the no 2 course at Carnoustie). Short par 4, reachable for me that day. I hit it solid, but accidently pushed it by, perhaps 20 yards towards left. But it was getting dark and I had also misread the direction. The two mistakes canceled each other out and I a found a very makable eagle putt when we walked up to the green. I holed it. Had I hit my line off the tee I might have gone OB.

I hit a hole in one by thinning the ball straight in! Always claim that I ripped it though, obviously!

Was in front of about 200 people as well at my courses club championship, it was the 18th hole and I was one of the last groups out

Bladed a 5 or 6 iron off the tee on a par 3, with a large body of water stretching from the tee box to the green. Ball shot low and fast into the water, skipped, I kid you not, six times, jumped out of the water green-side, and came to rest on the fringe.

 

Then I'm pretty sure I bogeyd.

Walked up to a tee thinking it was a par 4 with driver in hand. Then I noticed the sign saying it was a 212m par 3. Rather than go back to my bag and get my 3 iron , I thought I would choke down the shaft on the driver and take like a 3/4 swing with it. The shot I hit was terrible, it started well left nearly clipping the trees in the lateral hazard but it was banana slicing back toward the green. Disgusted by the shot , I stopped watching it and bent down to pick up the tee. Whilst doing that I heard the cheers from the group on the green that had called us up. That right there is my only hole in one.

Last year, last tourney before got real cold. Blocked tee shot behind trees or right of left dogleg par 4. Have to hit huge slice from 210. Hit it great but comes out as flyer. Slices 50 yes, hits pin and drops for eagle. Only skin left($270). Lol

People ask me why I get so angry during my rounds, even when I shoot in the 70’s. I always tell them I don’t play for luck. Every shot is to be executed a certain way and when it’s not, I failed. Very few people I have played with understand this. ?
