My working assumption is that Miura and Epon (Endo’s brand name) forged heads are Japanese forged. They are not always assembled in Japan. They do sell just heads and are assembled by builders everywhere, including the U.S.

Endo has a plant in Thailand. Not sure what the split is between Japan & Thailand.

Miura’s Passing Point Neo Genesis line is made in China & inspected in Japan.

Sorry, I meant Miura’s one piece forgings. Neo Genesis is a two piece club. The face is an insert. I try to avoid Chinese forging unless certain circumstances, siuch as the OEM owns the forging house or the house is known and expected. China is a huge country and some manufacturers make excellent heads and some are really no better than counterfeit clubs the tolerances are so loose.

Thailand I don’t know much about golf-wise. Taiwan manufacturing is well-regarded in many fields, such as steel bicycle frames, which are outstanding in my epxerience. The challenge is China can be great or awful, and it can be difficult for consumers to know.

I thought all Miura’s are two piece - spin welded necks.

I think you are correct on that point - there are videos of the Miura & MG models having the hosel spin welded. I think are only a handful of brands that make fully single piece clubs, and then you get brands milling from single blocks of forged steel for their irons eg Seven Golf.

I even think my Seven putter is from a single block, beautiful milling in the neck and face.

Here another irons made from single block. Just like milled putter. Surely one of the best Japan made we can find. Long before Seven I think. Unfortunately this the only model made from single block, other irons from this brand only score lines milled. Very beautiful Irons.

Though the company that owns it isn't Japanese, Honma clubs and shafts are made in Japan.

I had thought this also but there's a thread on TSG that disputes this (assembled in Japan but forged in China). I don't know who to believe at this point

I purchased a Honma 737 FWc 3W off eBay from ksouth9 when he was selling a bunch of them for really cheap. Think I got it for $75. Anyways, it was was marked on the club that it was made in china. No wonder I got it for so cheap. I ended up selling it because it wasn't worth as much to me once I found that out. However, if you look at a 727 3W, it says on the hosel that it was forged in Japan. This must have happened in more recent years.

I was told Honma was going back to Japan made for the next line since the TW737 was a bust. IMO, the TW727 were much better than the TW737 line.

That would be interesting. I tested them a year ago and almost bought. Couldn’t get past ‘made in China’ rumors. European distributor claimed there were two sets of 737 irons with one made in Japan. They told me that to justify 2x pricing compared to US pricing for Chinese Honma’s. My Japan sources disputed any of the 737’s coming from Japan, just the shafts and assembly.

We might find that some golf brands have items made in Taiwan - but some instances that could be viewed as being China to be PC - in Asia Taiwan is Taiwan except for the Chinese who will always view Taiwan as China - so some of the Miura products are actually made in Taiwan - but their website might say China ! But then again there are products made in China China proper.

What is the difference in quality between Taiwan and China for forgings?

Well I would say that for Taiwan their steel industry, especially in golf is certainly far better & established than the China (which is catching up) . I would take Taiwanese forgings and other steel products over Chinese - it comes back to quality control, processes etc etc. Not to take away from the Chinese (mainland china) they have certainly advanced their steel industries, but you encounter such scenarios like they are one of the worlds largest pen manufactures but they still can't make the steel ball in a ball point pen - simply dont have the skillset & technology for it!

For golf forgings Obviously Japan #1, then Taiwan/Thailand #2/3 then last China.

Taiwan make great products eg KBS shafts!

Anyway here is a good article.

Love the Onoff center square and it’s repositioning on different irons. They use the square, black and or red, on their woods. Love their look too.

Unfortunately they always have a wimpy in house shaft attached to that head...still, killer looking CBs.
