Callaway PM grind wedges feel clicky/harsh. Any suggestions for softer feel in Callaway wedges?

Just got two Callaway PM grind wedges, not impressed yet. Feels hard and clicky. I played today using Wilson 29 compression ball, was not expecting such a harsh feeling wedge. Many solid hits, just didnt like feel. Can return within 30 days to Callaway Preowned for 90% refund. Might trade in for other Callaway wedges. Any suggestions on a softer, forged perhaps, Callaway wedge. Thanks for any ideas.

The PM Grind wedges will never be mistaken for a forged wedge, but I do not find them "clicky or harsh".

Ionomer or surlyn balls in general will feel "clickier" than a urethane ball just because the cover is not as soft.

The cog is a bit higher on them. If you are catching them a groove or two low (per Johnnie Miller) then they will feel cranky.

If you are worried about that, hit some test shots with the ball back in the stance with an open club face. See if you cant catch it a bit higher on the face, and see if that changes it.

I found luck with this, and decided to settle o. Them until I got drunk and gave it to a friend. Although, he needed a wedge. Pay it forward peeps.

I have a 58 pm grind and while it’s not the softest I don’t find it harsh. That marshmallow ball shouldn’t feel harsh with anything imo or at least it wouldn’t to me. You must have a very specific feel you’re looking for that I’m not sure will exist. Maybe try with a Callaway Supersoft ball. I’ve played the MD forged too and to me there wasn’t a world of difference in feel between it and the PM grind so that may not be your best option either if you decide to return.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the input. Last set was Miura forged wedges. Just started back playing after several years, back injury. Bought new clubs that I thought would be easier to hit with my reduced swing speed. New Callaway Apex irons are incredible. Put my set of Miura irons and wedges (stiff shafts) to side for jow in favor of reg flex graphite. Playing tomm and will give PM grind wedges another chance. With that said, shots were good today, 90 yard SW which is good for me. Several nice flop shots as I was playing with 60 degree wedge on many green sides. Just the feel was off, performance was great.

I tend to agree with 1Mordrid1.

After testing two years ago, I went to MD3 in PW and SW, and MD-PM Grind in LW. Tried them out at several golf expos and demo days.

I always thought they felt very smooth. Note: I did get KBS Tour R-flex shafts, which had much better feel than the stock shafts.

Also, the ball matters a lot.

Will use Pro V1 today, heading to course shortly. Mine have same KBS Tour shafts, wasnt familiar with them, thats just what they had when I ordered from Callaway Preowned. Sounds like nice shafts, using known ball today, eager to see if opinion on these Mack Daddy PM grind 56 and 60 degree wedges changes today.

I have no issues and love my PM grind, try a better ball, or guess you'll have to get used to feel or buy something forged. Considering versatility of PM grind, you might want to get used to it, though some can't work well with the bounce/sole design.

There's always MD Forged, but sole grind will be different.

You need to exchange them for MD forged. Only the forged version has what you’re looking for. Good news that they’re on sale right now at CPO for only $68 “like new”

Thanks for suggestions, and MD forged, hadnt seen that. Will take a look now. Just got in from playing a round near Pinehurst, at Foxfire. Hit my MD PM grind 56 and 60 a lot, and some extra shots also. With Pro V1 and Z Star, was a better feel than yesterday with Wilson Duo. Hit three consecutive SW 100 yards, all three within 1 yard to my surprise. Walked it off. Not what Miuras feel like, but not as clicky as yesterday. Hit many varying shots with lob around green, inluding a few flop shots over bunkers. Holed a pitch out from about 30 yards. So, maybe I judged these prematurely. Will have to read up and see how MD forged might compare. Impression now is 56 is ok, bit harsh. But the 60 is money within 30-40 yards of green. Will have to test further it appears.

Im a bogey golfer, but hit enough solid shots this week to have an opinion. These are certainly not the softest wedges. My Miura are forged, maybe a big variable. But previous set of Cleveland DSG 588’s were much nicer feeling, to me, than these PM grinds. Reason why above my pay grade, but off center shots are not the sole reason. Pun intended.

I think it was mentioned, but the geometry of these clubs moves the sweet spot slightly higher and very slightly towards the toe (relative to most other clubs it's actually the center), so for what it's worth, It took me a few rounds to adjust to a new sweet spot and progressively move my strike position to there. Still won't feel like a Mizuno wedge though (I find Miura to be more firm than a marshmallow like Mizuno). Hope they work out!

Appreciate the heads up. Read what I could and saw a few Youtube reviews, Mark Crossfield, Rick Shiels, etc. Just ordered set of Mack Daddy forged in 52-56-60 with UPS 2nd day shipping. Heading to Hilton Head in two weeks, eager to finally play Harbor Town. These forged MD sound more like what I am looking for. Two like new and one in good condition, with altered lie and length was only $170. Incredible value it appears.

I play the MDF in 52 & 56 then the PM in 60, love them all, MDF are soft & accurate not as good as the MD2TG but close.

The PM is money though, the best 60 I’ve ever played, so well balanced & easy to hit any shot with, I’ve got two backups & no MDF backups.

Best mate liked how I was chipping & pitching the PM and asked me to order him one, low & behold, he now has a backup as well. I hope my two backups are enough to see me through my playing years.
