Taylormade Fitting Experience at The Kingdom ... a little bizzare

Recommended Posts

That sounds horrible. I'm in the market for some new irons and don't think I will be going with TM. I have heard some horror stories on here and from some of the guys I work with. Basically, everything from completely wrong clubs to being delayed and taking 3 months to get a club. I really think you should get your money back for the fitting because that wasn't a fitting by any means.

The only reason I use AmEx is for exact reasons like this.

OP, I hope you do as well. Call them and dispute EVERYTHING. You will at least have that piece of mind knowing AmEx will reverse everything.

I don't know why anyone supports TM. Literally the worst OEM in golf.

This is one of the few threads on WRX where EVERYONE agrees in their responses!

It speaks volumes that we all think that was simply unacceptable by TM and it is right they are being called out.

I have only ever bought one set of their irons - I'm very pleased with the 790s BUT the loft and lies from the factory were absolutely all over the place and there must be a lot of TM golfers not playing to their capability if they are using equipment which has not been set up to the order. If I was a retailer I would make sure I had loft / lie and swingweight machines to personally check the specs of clubs delivered before handing it to any of my customers but few do and when you get the spec sheet signed off by the builders initials, it should count for something, right?

Sorry for your poor experience and I would keep pushing to contact the most senior person you can at TM and ask them whether they feel that is the experience a customer SHOULD have received for their $650

I’ll be honest. I’d have to reserve judgment on this one for some more reliable confirmation than just words on a forum post. There are just a few elements to it that seem to be a few standard deviations out of the ordinary. In the scientific world there is an old adage that essentially says extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. The recounting of this experience just doesn’t ring for me. Not that bad experiences don’t happen but that sometimes there is just more balance to be found in the individual’s perceptions and expectations than can be gathered from a single perspective.

I custom ordered my irons through TaylorMade and came in the exact day they were scheduled.

3 & 4 iron P750's +1/4" length, 1.5 degree's flat

5-PW irons P730's +1/4 length, 1.5 degree's flat, 1 degree strong

+1 extra wrap of grip tape

All irons came in perfect. I removed the grips to install Prosoft inserts and even the extra wrap of tape was on every iron.

Bob Parsons would never allow this to happen.

I don't know about that, I have 2 PXG clubs in my bag, the DI came with the wrong shaft and grip and the putter actually came dinged with paint chips as well as wrong weight, Customer service wasn't good and I was forced to touch up the dings myself with ill matching black paint from autozone and deal with the shaft as I was told they don't carry the weight of shaft I ordered anymore so they put the lighter one in... Rep never got back to me and emails to PXG really got me nowhere...

I'm rolling the putter is good and I'm dealing with it, will probably swap shaft in DI (it was +$ upgrade)... So yeah, PXG doesn't give a flying crap either.

I hate hearing these stories, I am glad the OP shared as info like this helps us be informed consumers, but for a purchase of this magnitude to go south makes me a bit sad for the OP. iN all honesty tales like these have kept me from going in for a fitting. For the money, I can but PLENTY of lightly used clubs and find out what works for me.

Best of luck to the OP and I hope this gets resolved.

I've custom ordered multiple things from TM online the past couple years. Everything's turned out exactly how I ordered it. But this experience is terrible. Terrible service from not only the receptionist but from the fitters themselves. Just embarrassing on TM. I thought they had really stepped up their game in the past 2-3 years, at least product wise. But this is downright unacceptable.

But you have to back that marketing up with customer service. No offence to the original poster- but he flew transatlantic, had a rubbish fitting and was still eager to buy 2 full sets of TM clubs by the sounds of it.

To me that is the sort of profile of customer these companies want- someone with money to spend. They have lost at least 2 customers for life off of the back of their customer service.

TM or any firm should offer premium experiences if they cannot back them up with the service to match the price.

i feel like taylormade could easily come here and have something to say about this -- or at least respond to the OP.

Trans-pacific, just to nitpick.

I can't wrap my head around being enough of a golf-brand fan to fly halfway around the world to spend a couple hours in a fitting at their headquarters. But agreed, if it meant that much to OP it's an extremely bad look for Taylormade to basically rebuff his entire effort as though he were some random guy off the street dropping by to pester them.

As another poster responded if you paid by credit card you can contact the card company and file a dispute. Even if your card has been charged, the charge will be deleted until the dispute is settled. You have a 99.9% chance of winning with very little effort. Just be as factual your post.

This kind of service unacceptable.

I'd almost bet that if he even mentioned he was going to reverse the charges, he would have gotten a person in some type of supervisory role over there. I'm not shocked TM treated him this way, but I am surprised it was felt with at such a low level in regards to the company structure.
