Newer Cobra driver offerings vs Fly Z+

I don't recall the specifics of how stiffer it will play when but trimming but yes it will play slightly stiffer with the head being the same weight but im not sure that you would notice it much. if you want to stiffen it up your better off taking some of the tip section down. this is why you will see tip trimming instructions for shafts between driver, 3 wood, 5 wood because they are trying to maintain the same shaft performance with different head weights because as the shafts get shorter the heads need to get heavier to maintain a swing weight. how much to take off can be calculated

 

1. Subtract old driver head weight (200g) from standard 3 wood head weight 220g = 20

2. Subtract new driver head weight (208g) from standard 3 wood head weight 220g = 12

3. Subtract 12g from 20g = 8g

4. divide 8g by 20g = 0.4 or 40%

 

ok so what does 40% mean???? well its a 40% change between two target weights one being the original driver which was tipped 0" and the 3 wood weight which is tipped 0.5"

 

5. 0.4 (40%) x 0.5" = 0.2"

6. Convert to inches = just north of 3/16" tip trimming

Went out last night to the driving range and tested the 44.5 length flyz w/ the 16 gr. weight. Probably hit about 15 balls and very encouraged with the results. Medium/high flight and long (long for me :taunt:).

 

Now I am a believer in the shorter length drivers (my other one is the Callaway Fusion heavy). As mentioned many times before, the shorter shaft enables one to hit the sweet spot (or close to it) more often. Overall, I see no distance loss.

 

Now I will have to have a face off between the Flyz and the Fusion to see which one will be my gamer.

 

As mentioned before, the flyz swing weight came in at a shade over D4. Is this considered heavy? Standard? Just curious.

... Swingweight, especially in a driver that is independent of other clubs, like irons where a difference can be noticeable, is just personal preference. I was on vacation and put a heavier weight in a driver and hit it very well even though it did feel a touch heavy. Got home and checked the swing weight and was surprised to find it was D8. Once that info was in my head I never hit it as well again. This game is just so mental. I normally play my driver at D0 and my irons at D3 as thru the years I have found the works best for me. Yet if I were any from home and picked up some rental clubs I probably would not notice a difference as long as they swing weight was consistent.

I would say yes that it is one the heavy side but some people play better with that. I think a great option would be to put the original weight back in put some foot spray on the face and hit the back, if its to light you will most likely hit the ball on the heal, add some lead tape to the head a little at a time may 2g until you can hit the center of the face, once you find the sweet spot take the lead tape off and measure it. hopefully its 8g and you can throw in the 16g head weight if not stick with the lead tape.

I need some others opinions or analysis. So I moved from a cut down fly z to the tour length f8. I didn't gain any distance, (may have lost a little) , but it's definitely the straightest driver I've ever hit. So I got to thinking, is it the hzrdus yellow making it straighter? This weekend, I put the hzrdus in the fly z and played it all weekend. Drove the ball great! I think I like the fly z better. Question is, do you guys think the fly z is more anti left, maybe sets more open or is it the shaft? My miss is left. Obviously the f8 has the weight in the heel, but what is yalls opinion?
