Evidently Brooks is "Yoked, Ripped and Jacked".....Orly?

Since when does a golfer having some semblance of a muscular build make him Adonis? Brooks is a bigger than average dude and it's evident he works out more than his peers....but my goodness the narrative of him and others being borderline bodybuilders is beyond annoying. Modern day athletes stay in shape and use hot equipment....ball goes far....get over it

(that may have been a rant and for that I'm at least partially apologetic)

For generations, the generally accepted ideal body for golf was long and lean. Golf writers and those in the media are extremely slow to accept new concepts and ideas about the game. A golfer with mass that isn’t fat, for some reason, is considered one who is risking injury.

Until more golfers put on muscle, it won’t be commonly accepted. It’s still generally considered non-beneficial to put on muscle for golf. Exercise is more geared toward recovery and injury prevention. Something tells me that golf will always view DJ’s body as ideal compared to Koepka’s though.

Former professional golfer. Current amateur human being.

Golf is primarily an explosive power based game a la sprinting, shotput, baseball hitting. It’s not an endurance sport like marathon running, it’s not a mental sport like chess. The name of the game is controlled raw explosive power. Now that Tiger enlightened the world on this concept and changed the game, this is what the future will look like. Pure unadulterated man meat crushing PEDs like John Daly did Coors Light and hitting 370+ yard dingers off the tee.

Golf is nothing like sprinting. Maybe a little like shot-putting or hitting in baseball, but, over the course of a tournament the swing does tax the body a lot. Also, I doubt there are more than a handful of people who would think of using PEDS in Golf. Finally, to say that golf is not a mental sport... Tell that to a golfer.

It’s mental in the sense that proprioception, hand-eye coordination, power, and everything we do requires a functioning brain, and some people’s brains help facilitate these things better than others. But as far is it being a mental game like chess or poker, nope. Golf is an outdoor physical activity and whoever hits the ball best, a primarily physical act, wins.

Brooks likes putting on a gun show, but I don’t think he’s particularly ripped. More like toned.

Either way, he’s going to end up 3rd on the list of all-time major winners.

I respectively disagree with the first part of your statement.

Long and lean players were evident over the years on tour but the most successful body shape was not long and lean but shortish and solid.

Players like Hogan, Snead, Jones and even Nicklaus were not much over 5'8" if that.

A lot of elite players of yesteryear were this body type.

It was not really until Greg Norman came along the the taller power player make their mark.

Golf is like a combination of frisbee, corn hole (the game), croquet and checkers.

Brooks was asked in the media tent about his bench press numbers and he said it's not all that impressive compared to guys he routinely see's at local gyms. He clearly thinks the media makes way too much of it.

Snead and Jack were close to 6’ tall when they were young. Jack has definitely shrunk as he aged.

I would argue Tigers biggest strength was his mental approach.

Tiger could win. Two three putts yesterday and missed many 8-12 birdie putts.

As for Brooks, he is an athlete, period. Back when Arnold Palmer started playing, suspect folks made similar Koepka comments, brutus, weight lifter, etc. He was a modern athlete of his day, similar to Brooks is now. Personally, I think Brooks is a cool cat, well spoken, and respectful. I hope he tears that course a new one today. Muscles dont explain his great touch around greens, putting, nor his demeanor. Much more to Brooks than I am hearing from golf commentators, or Monday morning quarterbacks here.

BK is a fairly big and strong golfer. He does not look like the golfer of yore like Sluman Kite Crenshaw Toms and CHAMBLOW. So when guys like him start dominating the myths start. With that said he really is fun to watch. Driver wedge is fun when most others are hitting 6-8 irons. :D

Two factions here. Non lifters who know Brooks is big for a golfer And muscle heads who say “ he’s tiny ,barely any definition at all “. Typed while they cut the sleeves out of their T shirts and slits down the neck.

Honestly who cares ? Why start another “ he’s built like a linebacker “. “ no he’s not “. Thread ?

Morning Drive just reported Brooks is able to do 14 reps @ 225 lbs on the bench press.

225 bench totals for different-sized athletes to meet NFL status quo:

  • Linemen: 30-39
  • Tight Ends and Linebackers: 25-30
  • Running Backs: 20-25
  • Defensive Backs and Receivers: 15-20
