The rule implemented was rushed and reactionary. I feel they should rescind it. It still amazes me that they allowed Kuchar’s metheod to remain legal.

The question on the thread is not how y'all feel about the rule, whether it's fair or not fair, etc. Blah, blah, blah. The question is this: is it not crystal clear from the video, including the last birdie putt to tie him for the lead that the man is anchoring the putter against his chest? Doesn't seem ambiguous at all. That club is pressed hard against his chest! Look at the muscles in his right forearm are tensed and that putter doesn't budge because it's pressed against his chest. That's against the rules, which is the definition of "cheating".

I think Scott is the one guy who doesn't anchor. I think he keeps it away from his chest. Langer and McCarron look like the hand is right at the chest.

The reason why they allow the Kuchar method is because the putter is moving, it isn't fixed on a point and it would basically outlaw chocking down on the putter because if you choke down and forward press you will touch your forearm a little

Didn’t Adam mark his ball on the fringe?

He did ask Brooks and group's rule official what they thought, they gave him ok. On 6th hole.

To OP(not you, dcfas), about this anchoring thread, get a life. If you want to complain about it, call USGA and let them know. One of the worst rule USGA has implemented.

Adam Scott is straight up cheating. Excellent shot just now of him on the putting green right behind Koepka and you can clearly, clearly see that putter is anchored to his chest firmly, not budging a smidge. Straight up cheating and needs to be called by the rules official. Just because Langer gets away with it on the hit and giggle tour is no reason to let the real pros get away with it. I don't care how popular Scott is and how "nice a guy" this is just wrong.

Let's see, the USGA and presumably the R&A are satisfied that Adam Scott is playing golf in compliance with Rule 14-1b. The PGA Tour and the PGA of America also seem to be satisfied that Scott is playing golf in compliance with Rule 14-1b.

On the other hand, a few couch potatoes provide us with their alternative facts based solely on the vantage point of their big screen TVs and La-Z-Boys.

Knowledge of the Rules is part of the applied skill set which a player must use to play competitive golf.

From the TV coverage I cannot tell if his top hand is touching the chest or not.

What is curious to me is why the TV coverage is doing everything they can to avoid a close up shot or to even ask if he is anchoring or not.

Meanwhile the camera is able to detect a few grains of sand moved by a back swing in the bunker.

As a couple of other posters have already stated just limit the length of the putter to 36 inches.

At least the cheaters opps I mean those using the long putters cannot use them as a club to take relief.

This has been discussed a 1000 times, but I always come back to this - what evidence would be acceptable to call a penalty for anchoring? There seems to be no discernible way to tell if a guys is TRULY anchoring, so they could not anchor all day and then when they know the nerves are on, just anchor it a bit. There would be no way to tell and the penalty can never be called.

Therefore, just ban the long putters.

Why do they need to ask if he is anchoring or not?

If taking relief is the concern then why not just limit length to 48 like every other club?

Hey, why not make every club 48" long? A 48" sand wedge would be fun for all . . . you could hit that beauty 250 yards. ;)

If they were anchoring it would be blatantly obvious. There are creases on the shirt leading to both sides of the putter handle, which does not change position during the follow through.

The fans who think the players are anchoring have no idea what they are looking at. I'd like to be more kind and diplomatic, but it would be inappropriate.
