Callaway Epic Subzero VS Rogue Subzero - Premium Shafts

Hi Guys,

I have been waiting for a while now for one of the online professional reviewers to do a head to head between the Callway Epic Subzero (my current gamer) and the new Rogue Subzero, using premium shafts AND those same premium shafts in each club to get constant results. I have got bored of waiting, and my guess is they might not even be allowed to do it given there could be some contrasting results.

I have decided to give this a go, and although I tried to be as consistent as I can, I wasn't swinging great on the day but here is what I did and how I did it.

I hit 24 shots in total, 12 with the Epic and 12 with the rogue. This 12 were each divided up into 6 shots with a Tensei CK Pro White 60tx and a Hzrdus Handcrafted Black 6.5 62g. These are the shafts I have been using and are top end and so wanted to see how they both compared using both heads. The heads were the 9 degree version, with each having the setting Draw and standard as that is my setting. The shafts both play 45.5" and I have a MCC Plus 4 align on both shafts with 2 layers. The results were taken on a Trackman 4, using Callaway range balls, but results were normalized to 18 degrees and 0 altitude. I am also a 1 handicap golfer that competes across the UK within Mid Am events.

I started with the Rogue with the Hzrdus shaft. All in all I found that the figure were ok. Carry was 275, with a total of 304. Club Speed was 109.7 and ball speed 160. Smash factor was 1.47 and spin rating 1535.

I then went on the the Rogue with the Tensei. Carry here was 272 with a total of 301. Club speed was 107.9 and ball speed was 160.4. Smash factor was 1.49 and spin 1633.

Now I went on to the Epic and start with the Hzrdus, my 1st shaft I had for this club. The results were 263.7 carry and 299.7 total with a club speed of 106.9 and ball speed of 159.8. Smash was 1.49 and spin 1291.

Finally I went to my Gamer, the Epic Sub Zero with the Tensei and the results were 275.3 carry with 303.4 total. 107.4 club head with a ball speed of 159.4 and a smash of 1.5 and spin of 1559.

Figures aside the Rogue did have the longest carry with the Hzrdus BUT the Epic with the Tensei had the 3 longest totals. I also did this with a PGA professional who said figures taken away, the launch for the Rogue was 2 degrees higher than the Epic and you could see that and it spun up, so into or a cross wind it wouldn't be great. The Epics flight etc was better.

I would also like to note that this winter I have been injured with a right shoulder and hand injury and last summer my swing speed was up to 113 and ball speed was touching 166. I am back doing supersede and will red o these tests in 4-6 weeks once I am swinging better.

My conclusion. Zero difference but for my confidence, the Epic is a better gamers club and the flight, spin etc are better than the Rogues. Having said that, give me a wind with hole and the Rogue would be perfect.

I'm interested to hear some more comparison between the two sub zero drivers. All of last year I wanted to get an epic SZ but told myself I'd wait for a price drop. DD's sent the price drop email last week so I ordered one. I didn't see a huge difference between the two except the epic looks better. I know you can't see the bottom of the club at address but dang the rogue looks ugly!

Thanks for testing these 2 heads out. For me dispersion went marginally to the Rogue last Friday. I did a similar test with the Epic & Rogue SZ's (but with lighter shafts lol). Swing speed avg right now is 103.2. Spin numbers were both similar compared to the stock T800 Hzrdus and stock synergy 60 (2150 - 2300). My longest drive were with the Epic. Not much difference at all for me between the 2. I tried both heads in each shaft I mentioned. I also tried the Fuji pro but did not like that one at all. I have a very smooth tempo with no aggression at all lol. My carry distances were 255-262. Can't wait for Spring.

With spin that low what was your launch angle? Anything under like 15 degrees and those would fall out of the sky pretty quick wouldn't they?

Some flavor of the month driver.
Some driving iron for Links courses.

A hybrid to save my bad shots.
Titleist blades when I feel lucky otherwise something more forgiving.
A Vokey wedge or 2.
I hate every one of my 17 putters.

Those are some extremely low spin numbers, I dont know anyone that wants spin rates in the 1500rpm or less range. Maybe that works for you though. You could defenately increase your carry distance by getting it to around 2000-2200rpm.

Honestly, I feel the tRackman had the spin wrong, as although it is consistent my spin numbers historically have been between 2000-2400 so I feel they had the settings wrong for th balls/wet balls etc

I'm pretty sure the Trackman wasn't set up right as my spin is normally 2000-2400 and I rarely get a Knuckle ball (I did with the M1/M2 family alot). All other figures were spot on except the spin and I have had issues with the centre before where I went with their settings for range balls and not getting correct figures (I took a separate TM there and compared and there were differences)
