DI Alternative to Pro White

NickJ

Recommended Posts

Recently built a 18deg Vapor Fly Pro as a DI. Put a SF 110CW in it and thus far, I've been a big fan of the trajectory and stress-free use from the tee. However, spin seems to be quite high. My J40 3i (2deg weaker, 1" shorter X100) carries and rolls farther.

I don't have the budget for a Pro White and I hated the HZRDUS Black I demo'd in the UDI.

I prefer a graphite shaft, but I know I can at least go to an AMT X100 as a last resort for the lighter weight.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

What kind of trajectory are you looking for? Do you want to be able to hit it from the fairway and hold a green?

Tour Green 85 or 105 are good cheap options. More responsive feel than the hzrdus but still a low flight.

AMT X100 is a similar flight but a little less forgiving and a little more control oriented. I tend to hit the graphite higher and further overall.

Off the tee only. I rarely play a course where the smart choice is a 250yd shot to the green.

In that case, If you want graphite, the RIP a 105 will work for you. I found it to be a bit harsh but I got good performance out of it like you're asking for. Also, check out the old PX HB6, UST Elements Earth/Terra 100 or Matrix HM3. It'll feel better IMO than the RIP but you'll still get good flat flight. If you can find an Aldila Tour Green 105, that'll work for you too. Most of the other new hybrid shafts that would be lower spin and low launch will be generally the same price as the Tensei Pro White, although you may be able to find a pull for cheap. Since you said the SF i110 spins too much, I've found most other graphite iron shafts to play more mid/mid so I'd stay away from those. I haven't hit the Recoil Prototype 110 but I hear it's lower launch. The Fuji Pro 110 Tour Spec is getting good reviews from the test group here so look through those reviews. LASTLY, check out CTaper Lite, DG AMT X100, and PXi. Those would be cheap experiments.

I have an Aldila Rip Tour 115 3 Iron shaft in my Vapor Fly Pro 3 iron. Can fly it high or low, not overly spinny, I play X7 in my irons and find the 115X to be stable but not too much to swing.

The Fuji Pro 95 and 115 play very similar to the X100. They work well for a driving iron shaft.

Matrix Black Tie hm3 105. If I didn't have a Pro White in my TMB 2 iron, this would be my next choice. Had one in a Mizuno MP-h4 2 iron and it was a monster, just lacks the feel of the Pro White.

I bought a Fuji Pro 115i from Will P. I'll update this thread when I get it installed and get a few swings in.

I was torn between the RIP and the Tour Green but ended up taking what I felt was the most predictable/safe route. Based on everything I read - the Fuji Pro should end up being very similar to the X100 in the rest of my irons but with lower spin and launch.
