Callaway md4 raw wedges crazy amounts of rusting

This past June I bought the 50, 55 and 60 degree Callaway md4 raw wedges. I was new to the raw wedge thing and I am absolutely blown away by how much these things rust.

I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about all things equipment but I never would have thought that these wedges would rust as much as they do.

I tried using bartenders friend on all three of them and while it did help, the rust came back in droves.

I'm not complaining because at the end of the day it was my decision, but I don't think I'll ever go that route again.

I would be worried if the rusting could transfer into your other irons?

1. No, they won't transfer rust. Most golf clubs have nickel base then a top coat of chrome, PVD, etc.

 

2. He does not have raw wedges. What he has is wedges with a nickel base, and oxide top coat.

Soak em in vinegar or clr over 2hours then wipe down. If you really want to get rid of the rust that is.

I really don't care what I sound like.

I, along with many other WRX'rs had a particular topic on my mind and wanted to post it.

Truthfully, there's nothing to brag about when I'm about to throw away close to $400 in wedges.

I remember soaking my Ping Zing BeCu irons in Coke and they came out looking awesome

If you want to slow down the rusting, you can get some gun blue from a local gun store or online. It gives the wedge a deep blue, almost black look if you put enough on. The only problem is that it too will wear quickly on the face and sole and those will rust, but the back should stay rust free for a longer period of time.

Soak them in CLR and then wi[e them with WD40 every once in a while. I've been playing raw wedges basically since they were available, either the Cleveland 900 or 588, and I can tell you that the MD4 Raws rust way faster than anything I've ever owned. I play raw wedges because I practice a lot and chrome wedges look horrible after the first week I own them. Because I hit so many balls I rarely get rust to form on wedges but these things look like they've been sitting in a junkyard for the past 50 years.
