Mizuno MP 62's for 6 - 7 handicapp?

Hit em good

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I'm considering a used set of Mizuno MP 62's. I wanted to get WRX'r opinions on if these would be too demanding for me. I'm a 6-7 handicapp, and pretty good iron player. I currently play MP54', and hit them great, but they're a little chunky for my preference. I am wanting a bit more of a Mizuno forged players iron, but don't want to shell out $1000+ for the MP18 SC's.

Your comments about the MP62's and their suitability for my level would appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Hit em good

I can't say I've hit the 62s but I've found even Mizuno's blades not terribly hard to hit. I used to have a set of MP68s before I got my MP59s. The MP68s weren't even that hard to hit until you got into the 3 and 4 irons (hated trying to hit those).

Reason I got rid of the 68s were because I don't play fairly often anymore (maybe 10 rounds at most a year, kids now...) and the 59s are alot more forgiving on my mishits.

I'd say given your handicap, that you say you are good with irons, and if you play consistently. You shouldn't have a problem with any of the Mizuno lines.

For reference I was about the same handicap you are at when I played with the blades. A couple higher now tho...

They shouldn't be an issue considering your handicap. And I agree about dropping a grand on a new set, Geez! I had recently a full set of MP-60's which are similar to the ones you're looking in to and I hit them well, I only got rid of them because the other set of Ping i25's I hit better and they felt better. I loved the look at address and found the turf interaction really good on courses I play regularly, but using Pings for the majority of my golfing career, I found them to be a bit heavy in swing weight and over 18 holes in the heat I'd lose velocity on my swing. If they are cheap enough and in good shape, go for it!

I had bought mine off of the Bay for $125 and they were damn near brand new, even hat the original grips on them. Played them off and on for about a year, and recently traded them for a SC Squareback putter and got $100 in value for them.

I'd say go for it. You should be able to handle them. I went from Mp-32 to Mp-53 years ago and didn't really see much improvement in forgiveness. The 4/5 irons were a bit easier to launch, but that was about it for me.
