Bridgestone jgr hybrid irons and driver

I had the irons for awhile. Felt good, easy to elevate as the irons are designed to get the ball in the air. The lofts are a bit odd and they leave a bit of a gap at the top end, if I recall. Unusual design--they have a very wide sole so that it's all but impossible to dig shots into the ground.

The traditionalists will tell you to avoid these clubs as the wide soles will hide swing faults, will give you a false sense of confidence, and will not help you learn to hit shots precisely in the center as they are forgiving when you hit shots a bit off-line. Traditionalists will tell you to learn on harder clubs as you'll learn better habits with your golf swing.

Others (including me) will tell you that they are fine as starter clubs, maybe last you a long time. As forged irons they feel good. They will probably help you have fun from the outset playing golf--they will be a bit easier to learn with. If you enjoy them but don't get swept up in it and don't develop the desire to be much better, these irons will be fine for you and allow you to hit some decent shots without devoting your life to practicing and lessons. If you come to love the game and want to be much better, at some point, you'll want irons that are less forgiving but will allow you to more precisely shape the ball (move shots left or right, up and down)--these clubs aren't designed for that.

And then I'll tell you what most people on this forum will tell you. Buy the clubs at a good price and put some of the money you save from the clubs into lessons--getting started with good swing patterns and routines will help you a great deal. Much easier to start with ingraining good swings then to try to change bad ones later.

Good luck, have fun, enjoy the clubs--and stay off this forum until you're really ready to think about new clubs.

Excellent clubs if your starting out. Easy to hit, easy long and with that great forged feel. I think their best attribute is that they are very forgiving off a variety of turf conditions. The wider hybrid like sole is magic out of the rough and fairway bunkers (well, when you get better). Like most all Nippon's, the Zelos is a very good shaft and the lighter weight is a benefit for most beginners. There's a great set for sale on that other forum, and yes they could be mine.

Wow, thanks for the info guys! The more I read it looks like if i buy a set and do not like I can just resell and repeat lol. I hear ya on the lessons as well. I have a fitting appt mid sept, but in the meanwhile i will probably take the plunge. 425 is asking price, seems fair from my research. 300 for irons and 125 for driver

I would just be careful with the Nippon/Zelos shaft in the irons. I don't know what age you are or your strength/athleticism, but at 85 grams the Zelos is an extremely light and flexible shaft. Its probably not a shaft that the majority of male golfers would be fit into and if you have decent strength and coordination there is a good chance it may be too light and soft for you.

If you wanted to go with a safer option consider looking at a used set of Ping irons, either G30 or G, with the stock R-flex shaft. It might be a set that you could stick with much longer as your game progresses. And regarding resale, the JGR is a bit unique and has a limited audience, you'll always be able to find a buyer for a set of Ping G series irons. The JGR driver should be good for you, but you should confirm the driver loft and shaft flex, 10.5 or 12 works but I wouldn't go for 9.5.

Thanks for the info regarding the shaft, the driver is a stiff shaft 10.5. Not sure why they went r flex on irons. I got them down to 375$ if I could sell for 325-350 on here i would take the leap. Just don't want to have a set that doesn't fit me well. I will double check the shafts on the irons. Thank you all for the help

I think you would outgrow those irons fairly quick as a beginner. To me the soles aren't great for short irons. They might work well for a 4 and 5 iron but you would probably be better off with something like a used set of Srixon Z-355's.

You don't even have to buy the Z-355's used, they're currently selling new for $350 and come with the Nippon 950 which is a pretty decent shaft, especially for a beginner.

R-flex in the irons and S in the driver makes no sense. Even though the driver shaft is the NV orange, which has a lower kick point, I still wouldn't recommend a 65g S-flex shaft for a beginning golfer.

You still haven't mentioned your age or general level of athleticism. If you're a 60 year old man who's slightly out of shaft then I would say go for the irons (hope I'm not slagging anyone by saying that). The driver you should be able to get at least $75 back on. If you're a 30 year old who's coordinated and plays other sports then I would say pass on the irons. Don't forget that when you sell you may have to cover shipping and paypal.
