Driver testing again

after posting some results last weekend I ordered a Ping SF 12 degree with senior flex. I went back in golf Galaxy tonight and they had a use driver just like the one I ordered so I hit a few on the monitor. Last test my club head speed was 79 and for some reason tonight it was 83-89. Ball speed was 121-124. Back spin was 4500-2500. Peak height was 20-27 yards. I loved the way it felt and hit. Do you guys have any suggestions from these numbers? The one I used tonight was 12 degree but had been turned to 11 degree. Mine should be here next week and I can't wait to try it. Thanks to everyone that input last time.

If spin varied that much it means your face impact location was likely very inconsistent - which is a sign that the playing length is likely too long (very common for stock driver playing lengths).

And until you can start to get consistent face impact, the numbers are really meaningless as far as determining how optimal the fit is for you.

So get some foot powder spray and some lead tape as well and follow Howards DIY length fitting tutorial:

Not trying to discourage you from taking lessons - that can certainly help with the swing and some of the problems - but even most of the pros with the best swings wont play drivers as long as the stock lengths generally come. So that wont likely remove the need to shorten the playing length to improve the impact location and consistency.

If I get it shortened do they trim from the but or tip end?

If you go through the tutorial in the link I provided earlier you'll be able to make that decision. It's going to depend an a lot of things - such as how good the fit for shaft stiffness is, the type of shaft profile for your shaft, your swing type (particularly how smooth or aggressive the transition), how much you shorten it, and how much weight you may need to add to the head when figuring out the best swing weight. The short answer is that - after you figure out the length and head weight, did that cause the shaft to start to feel a bit too soft for you or not. If it feels fine, just butt cut. If it feels a bit soft, you'll want to take at least some of the length off of the tip.

After you go through that self fitting process, come back with some details on how it went and we can provide more help with that question.

Thanks, I have that book marked to do after my driver gets here.
