IMO I wouldnt recommend an Epic for a high handicap, especially a female high handicap. The face is just 'hard' on it during the ball strike due to jailbreak and its not very forgiving.

My wife uses a Nike Vapor Speed and she hits it about 180 and it's very forgiving. I would recommend a 'non adjustable weight' driver from 2015-2016 along those lines. 2016 M2 would be great as well. I think the G400 Max may fit the bit if you want something newer.

I have had an Epic in the bag for a year. One thing I’ve noticed is that toe misses are pretty bad off of an epic. The heel misses are good. Shots in the center are great. Toe misses are big trouble. Want to give the Max a try.

I’m a woman who played both. The best shot off the Epic is longer than my 400 Max, but I found it incredibly unforgiving. The ball felt heavy and dead off the face, which I always blamed on my slower swing speed. I rarely felt like I was compressing the ball. Tested the Rogue and had the same reaction to it.

I love my 400 Max. Good contact leads to great drives and I’m constantly surprised by how far and straight even the bad ones go. I think that, especially for slower swing speeds, it’s a great choice. My miss tends to be off the toe and, although there’s enough feedback to tell me where I missed it, it’s pretty much always playable.

Ping all day over the Epic in terms of fairways. And for some reason the G25 and G30 just feel more forgiving than the latest Pings. Most likely just a personal preference on sound etc. but they are also less busy up top and are essentially the same club as the new ones.

Ya.... not really.

Sounds like youʻre not a fan of the turbulator/dragon dly tech, thatʻs fine.

From my own testing, fitting and playing the G400 is clearly longer and more forgiving than previous models, same for the Max.

Probably 10 to 1 in testimonials on here with same results.

Played the Epic SZ last year with Tensei White Pro 70 then G400 Max with Tensei White Pro 70 this year but moved to a standard Rogue with Oban Devotion 6.

Standard Rogue is every bit as forgiving as GMax but sounds and feels better to me and my swing.

Put a decent swion any of the three and results will be very good. Marginal swings are penalized most with Epic SZ but it's not night and day difference.

Fi d a head that you like how it looks, feels and sounds and get properly fit and all of the recent heads will be within a few yards of each other and be somewhat the same relative to forgiveness.

Rogue gives me the look and feel I desire with distance and forgiveness equal to if not better than GMax and better than Epic SZ in all regards.

I have had most of them with similar results and it’s splitting hairs IMO. And yes personal preference for a simpler crown, not buying into vortec (dropped on the max) and the dots, etc. I think that’s marketing and visual differentiator, they have to do that otherwise it’s a very hard sell over past models.

But Ping definitely has to tell me the Max is more forgiving with a data point of whatever % more of MOI, because on the course it’s imperceptible to me. They are all very forgiving clubs with plenty of distance.

Shiels’ video on the Ping drivers sums it up pretty well. If the Max is far and away better for you, I think that would be odd being what they’ve produced for years, but good on you, and the other 9 out of 10 that love to buy clubs. That’s great for Ping sales!

I've just switched from a Epic to a G400 Max. The Max is way more forgiving and I am seeing a increase in distance, maybe due to not being in the rough or the trees quite so much. Not all club related but in the last week using the Max I've dropped a point off my handicap, some of that is due to hitting more fairways or just being in the first cut of rough.
