I am not sure if it classifies as cheap but the PING TR Anser 1966 which cost me new, less than half of the price of the PING Vault 2.0 Dale Anser, did noticeably better than the Vault Anser across 4 rounds of head to head on the 18 hole par 2 golf course that was loosely set up on the putting green of our club.

The Vault Anser looks, feels and sounds better but the TR Anser just flat out performs better for me. For the record, I am a PING guy and I would like to game the Vault Anser but I cannot ignore the results I see.

I picked up a 10$ Spaulding TP Mills TPM 1 that is butter. Not my Gamer but I seem to putt more consistently with it.

Agreed.

I collect old Spalding TPM's. None of them cost me more than $20.

They all feel beautiful to putt with. Every bit as good as the Scotty's, Machine, Lajosi and Ping putters I have.

Quick update. On the back of this thread I dug out and used my Spalding TPM 7 today. Best round putting I've had in ages.

It might stay in the bag a few weeks (or one of it's brethren).

I have gone back (again) to an old, dinged up Rife Hybrid 2 Bar Mallet. It just rolls the ball beautifully.

I’ve putted great with these every time I’ve picked one up at the store. Definitely on my must own list, but not sure if I want the blade or mallet version.

Yep. Ray Cook SR100 (heel shafted #9 type). After a gift card, paid $17 out of pocket ($40 retail). Down to 31 putts per round. Dropped 4-5 strokes per round with it.

Switched from a face balanced 2 ball putter. The type of putter has more to do with the improvement than the cost. But I will say, it's not a bad putter.

I go back and forth between my circa 62(picked up used for 100) and my Rife Aruba($14...miss raiding preowned racks). I think its more a matter of switching putters reminds me of all the success I had with it in the past, so I putt with greater confidence. When I switch, I notice how different the grip feels and my hands slide back into the worn position for my putters have distinctly different grips.

If anything can go right, it might!

I rotate between fancier putters and plain old Ping Ansers and I see little difference in the results. I'm either rolling the ball or not.

I putt great with an old Wilson. It is a Geo Low Original 600 Forged, a replica of the one Nicklaus used in many victories. It was an average price when new in 1980, maybe $40-50, but is worth very little today. I would use it still, but the grip is non-conforming. Just a simple leather grip, but the way it is made with a flat section on the front and round section at the top became non-conforming in 1988. I have had it 38 years, so I don't want to change the grip.

I'm currently gaming a Leading Edge at 45". I'm pretty sure I have more cash in the lead tape I have on it then what I gave for it in the first place.

Wilson Infinte Northside - $30 (new)

Rife Aruba + Pure mid-size grip - $45 (new)

Nike Method Converge Counterflex B1-01 - $30 (used)

Do I putt better? No clue because I don't see a reason to pay steep prices. I'm not risking buyers remorse when I miss a few.

Edit: I usually putt better than my playing partner which is all that is necessary most days. ?

I have been golfing for about 40 years, I have only owned 2 putters and I think they add up to a grand total of about $50. A ping answer I have had since the mid 80's and a Taylormade Rosa I bought off ebay for probably $30 in the late 90's. That being said, I was at our local PGA store last weekend and stroked a couple balls with a Scotty Newport and drained the first 3 from 25', so......

So... LOL! Sounds like it will be three putters over 60 years. You can maybe pick up a Scotty for a reasonable price. Of course, while one can get Ping Ansers and Taylormade putters for good prices, they certainly are not "cheap"...

Just picked up a Rife Iconic Vault 001 putter for £59 brand new in wrapper. Pretty chuffed. Was close to commissioning a bespoke putter from Scott Readman Concepts here in the UK but this little beauty ticked all the boxes and ended up saving a fortune. Love the sight dot and the phantom finish. Nice roll grove tech as well. Can definitely find plenty of brand new old stock on ebay with a bit of trust and patience!

A good strike (and you'll know when it is one) with a #7 is a religious experience.

I've went back to the future, putting the NC Sub 30 / 30 back in the bag last season, and have been a lot more consistent on the greens. While the putter itself is ok, finding a installing a [Lamkin Deep Etch] grip that works with- instead of against - me and the putterhead is even more important.

Recently picked up a Mizuno TP Mills Workshop III at Goodwill for $6.99. It's rusty as all hell, but on the verge of being the full time gamer.
