That's a lot of solo wolfing and air wolfing.

We used to play wolf a decent bit back in the day at the course I worked at. I can't remember all the multipliers, but we had the same concept where you could call solo while your ball was in the air for bonus multiplier.

In general, going solo was a very dicey proposition, unless you were basically a sure thing to make birdie (i.e., you just hit one toiight on a par 3).

C.Free set the tone on 1.

Some of the later ones were guys chasing. Everyone went solo at least once.

We also gave everyone a par 3. Had to re-jigger a little, but it's a huge advantage. You either don't do it on 3's or you have to give everyone a shot.

Calling wolf while the ball is in the air (whether it's yours as airwolf, or picking a partner) makes the game more fun I think. It would be really crazy at a links course where golf balls can take weird bounces.

C free did it on 17 and then his ball bounced away from the green. It was funny.

The energy was good all day.

On 12 City was airwolf and had hit into the fairway bunker, and C. Free and I had both been passed on after good tee shots in the right rough near the edge of the fairway. Eagle had the world in the palm of his hands and could have topped his ball on purpose to force City to play against the three of us (who were all stroking) for 3x. But he didn't and City took him.

I am going to start practicing power tops that still run out a good ways so I can be ready for this situation in the future.

If all else goes the same, I make par there, carry-over to 13 and win 3+1. That's because eagle doesn't make par if he tops one and you made bogey.

But, it would have been very funny, and the "back fire" that would have ensued would have been the stuff of AirWolf legend.

If eagle would have topped it on purpose, I would have been so fired up there's no way we lose that hole.

I think if I am going for the power top, I tee it way high, and then just smash it with driver into the ground and hope it takes a big enough hop to get to the fairway. I think I can run one of those out 100-125 yards. Still a chance at making par.

Non-pictorial recap of Saturday.

Airwolf started out like a house-a-fire. . .I swear I won't recap all holes.

Hole 1 : W-C.Free from the left rough on an uphill/sidehill hits a great shot to like 20 feet. He makes par, net bird. Eagle's birdie putt to tie just sneaks by and big 4 point lead right off.

Hole 2 : everyone is stroking off me and W-Domes plays the "odds" going with Eagle as his partner as Eagle rips one off the tee. But, C.Free lands his approach right on the crest and his ball trickles down to about 8 feet to that back left pin. C.Free is getting ready and I let him know, (paraphrasing) "did you look at it from this side? It's pretty steep."

"yeah"

"just trickle it on down there."

"yeah. I got it."

"Slide it in gently"

"I got it."

"Like my D"

"I didn't need that last part."

"But don't leave it short."

trolololol

C.Free slides it in gently and we get the win and the bird.

Hole 3, all are stroking, and W-Eagle shoves one way right. I pipe one right down the gut and before it hit, Eagle says, "I got city".

Me, "What? You realize they're getting strokes?" They both proceed to hit beauties.

But, I reach the green in 2 with the back left pin. Domes just flies the green and I'm like, "that dude is in trouble". He chips on, but that chip rolled past the pin and all the way off the front left into the fringe. Impossible U/D from back there But, he gets it up for bogey, net par and now it's me and a 25 foot sidehill, downhill, whirlibird that I"m legitimately concerned about keeping within 6 feet of the hole.

I basically play a St Louis Arch that I'm trying to lag on the high side and wouldn't you know it, it takes one last final tumble over the edge and Eagle and I take it for 2.

Blah blah blah, Domes 3-putts for par and the win. Eagle greenies 6. I sandy 7 (12 foot putt).

Then on 8, I'm Wolf and it's back left. It's only an 8 iron and I struck it well, but it's tough to judge. I call Lone Wolf with no time to spare and it lands on the ridge separating all 3 sections of green. Probably could have sat, or rolled back to the front, but instead it just trickles over to the left and leaves me a tricky 8 footer for bird, which I sink. 4 for Airwolf, 1 for birdie, 1 for greenie. -1 for saying "lone wolf" instead of Airwolf.

Eagle net eagles 9. I birdie it and then I'm like, "huh, I'm 2 under at this point".

Domes AirWolfs 10, but we halve it.

Eagle LoneWolfs 11 so it's going to be worth 7, and I hit a 55 yard chip to 3 feet and sink for the 7+1 for birdie. Huge blow to eagle's wallet. Payout to all 3.

Side note : I'm 3 under. What? 69 watch.

I have 40 yards in on 14 and I basically kind of skull one past a front pin and 3-putt coming back. But, I get THAT bogey back on 16 with an uphill 25 footer that I totally zenned. Good time to mention how much I like the Bobby Grace.

We roll up on 17 and then I notice the white tees are on the red box. It's 125 yard shot, stock PW, middle pin, which we had just hit on 15 so I'm licking my chops. However, I pull this one into the left bunker. Out and 2 putts for a bogey. -2. Meanwhile, C.Free went Airwolf on this hole and we're looking really good as Domes is on and stroking, but C.Free chips to a foot, and 18 is worth 5.

Now, C.Free is getting the only stroke on 18, and Eagle is wolf as he's in last at this point and goes with Domes. He might have been confused  by this time. Neither Eagle nor Domes manages to get up and down from the front fringe to a front pin and C.Free and I take the 5 points riding his net bird.

For my round, I had 9 iron into 18 (the whites were across the gully) but I pushed it right into a bunker. I leave 8 feet straight uphill for 69, but I just can't trust the read of "straight". I roll it right over the right edge. Tap in 70.

Felt very good about it. Basically drove the ball great all day. Had wedges in all day. Made some bombs and some good mid-rangers. The kind of putts I've been bemoaning not going in all year at home club. I still look back at the round and go, "there's no way 5 should have been a bogey at ANY time". Parred 13 and 18 having 155 and 145 in (those are par 5s). Obviously, I made a couple good putts and nice up and downs, but all I can think about is the ones that got away. It was pretty good to be in that position, know where I stood, and not gak on my shoes. That's kind of why I try to always be aware, so when I get there it doesn't feel unfamiliar.

Fun day. I know everyone always wants to go "test their game", but I highly recommend mixing it up like this from time to time. Really fun making and breaking alliances. It's a good game for buddying-up and taking perceived slights and feeling like everyone is against you, or for you. Really good time.

You forgot to mention how Dom, Phil Q, and I came out on 14 while you guys were making it down the fairway and were shocked that you had killed your drive so far down. We did have you chide you a little for 3 jacking it on the green and then felt bad for messing up your round. Glad you finished under par though. Good times good times.
