Flynn-golf quality issue?

HH..I am in business. I have sent employees to clients to provide consulting services and not charge the customer. Because the client was impressed with the work they provided, this led to additional work down the road which I did charge the client. Sometimes, as a business owner, you have to be willing to take a short term loss to make much more down the road. Do you think Apple wanted to provide free phone case during antenna gate? Do you think they wanted to replace defective batteries on their iPhones for free? Think about how many customers returned to buy more of their products.

You're telling me that a business can't take a loss of $50 to keep a repeat customer? I am not a one time customer of Flynn. I've purchased at least 4-5 sets of irons in addition to drivers, hybrids, etc. I have a proven history of buying from Flynn and I still have a young one playing. It's not about being lazy. Its cut and dry for me. Business sells me a defective product, I expect a replacement. Why is this wrong to expect this? I can flip this and say why is the business being cheap and not willing to eat $50. Sounds like Flynn has already lost at least two customers based on this thread. Who knows how many more there are.

You and I are disagreeing because you are looking at it from the business owner's perspective and I'm looking at it from the customer's. So HH, honestly, you wouldn't take a loss of $50 from a customers who has purchased 4-5 sets of irons, drivers, hybrids, etc (probably spent close to $2k) and also knowing that you still have a young one playing? He obviously knows that I still have a young one playing based on the size of the clubs I've been purchasing.

I was under the impression that Flynn assumed you needed the wedge sooner than he would have been able to get you a new one. Maybe he thought it would have been faster to fix locally than ship back and forth?

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Hi Leezer,

I didn’t mention to Flynn about needing the wedge soon. I simply sent him an email describing what happened with a photo of the club. I just didn’t expect his response which rubbed me the wrong way. I’m pretty sure if this happened to a vokey wedge or Mack daddy wedge, Titleist or Callaway would’ve sent me a replacement at no cost to me. Maybe I’m wrong.

Anyways, my initial post was just to agree with the OP regarding the quality of Flynn’s club. I will say that I’ve had no issues with my previous purchases from Flynn and maybe this was just a fluke. I just didn’t agree with how it was handled...that’s all I’m saying

I feel ya. I'm in sales and would have just sent a new one and dealt with the return / replace later.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

I’ve purchased many sets of irons from Flynn over the years. I recently purchased a new set of irons and the head of the sand wedge started separating from the ferrule. I sent a message to Mike and he said to take it to a golf shop and have it repaired. He said he would reimburse me for the cost. I was a bit disappointed in that response since my schedule is already so hectic. I expected him to send me a new wedge and I would’ve returned the defective wedge. In my opinion, I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

I had a somewhat similar experience. Had purchased a driver shaft and OEM adapter for a TM. After about 6 months, the adjustment indicator ring separated from the rest of the adapter. Sent him a picture, he sent me a replacement adapter in the mail and offered to refund me for what it cost to get repaired at a local shop. It was an inconvenience for me toting it to and from the PGA store, but I can't necessarily say I expected him to send me an entirely new shaft cut to my specs.

As for comparing his customer service to Callaway, Titleist, etc., he is just not those companies. His margins aren't that large. His sales volume isn't that large. He doesn't even have a customer service department. He does it all. Club development. Club assembly. Club customization. Order processing. Shipping. Customer Service. One guy.

I think he believes strongly in what he does, and I think he provides a very valuable service to the junior golf community. If not for him, it would be pretty much a one-option game for quality junior clubs. He runs his business how he believes he should, and it seems to be working well for him. Not to say you don't have a right to be upset about how he handled your case. But he runs it in a manner which he believes will continue to bring success and sales. You may disagree, but others have had experiences that speak well to his customer service.
