TRUEGolfFit online 'fitting' tool

Anyone had a play with this yet?

Popped up on Facebook last night and I thought I'd give it a go. Said it cost $7 so I thought why not, at worst it will be a bit of light entertainment for a hour or so.

Punched in all the required fields and it recommended a 917 D2. That was literally it. 917 D2. No recommendations of loft or even shaft flex.

Now I had a 917 D2 in the bag for a while earlier in the year and while I quite liked it the reason it left my bag was it was just a bit too short compared to some other things I've hit recently. Even the D3 was noticeably longer for me. Now here's where it gets fun. I paid my $7 as I thought it would be a little light entertainment. Lets have a tinker with it, perhaps I'll get some better results if I change my AoA to level as I'm only slightly downward. Nope, that will be another $7 thanks. It's $7 every time you want to run the program and you get nothing of real value from it.

For those of you who have played with it, what were your results like?

For those of you who haven't played with it. Don't. It's garbage.

I expected the whole concept to be garbage. Thanks for confirming.

I wasn't expecting it to be great but I was bored and it was $7. If it were $7 to use it as much as you like I'd say it would be okay, mainly as a bit of light entertainment if you have nothing better to do. At $7 a pop it's about as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

I have found it to be very disappointing offering from a website who promises and normally delivers so much.

Irons = 4-PW Miura KM 700
Gap Wedge = Miura HB 50*

The owner of the website is desperate to monetize his work. Sadly this tool is not a good answer and even if his other work on that site was any good (that I don’t think so) promoting this tool is an embarrassment for anyone that is a serious golfer. He thinks he’s very smart and can do with this tool a better job than a real fitter that is looking at your swing on a trackman or similar.

I would never know how much speed, tempo or angle of attack I’d have if not because I go to a fitter that explained them to me. I worked with a teacher to improve my AOA and smash. I changed heads and shafts to my best. And the tool wants the golfer to be almost secure of his swing characteristics.

I think if he wants to monetize the website, he better sells it.

The management over there are absolutely insufferable.

Go find a used 2018 Golf Digest Hot List issue. Point to a random driver.

Just saved you $7.

Agreed. I always enjoyed most of the reviews, although a little suspect about their true impartiality and testing methods. Saw some different brands that you would not normally see higher up in the rankings which was fine.

However, last year they decided to use their company twitter account as a political platform and I very gently communicated ( without any political opinion) that they might want to keep business and politics separate since it could impact revenue. I was told to go pound sand and they would do what they want. I then determined they were not particularly bright and now support sponsors elsewhere.

I failed to spot that TrueGolfFit is a My Golf Spy website! It is surprising they would release something so functionality poor.

One of the reasons I gave it a punt was because I've generally been quite impressed with the testing and reviews done by My Golf Spy so figured if they are promoting it then it has to be half decent. It wasn't till later when I went to give them my thoughts that I saw they are one and the same. Shame really as it's sullied my opinion of My Golf Spy altogether.

What I don't understand is that while it might be some use to the average punter who doesn't know anything about equipment, that same audience aren't likely to know their SS, AoA or tempo either. If you can answer the questions needed to get a result then you probably already have a half decent idea of what will and won't work for you.

In other news, I sent them an email asking for my money back because their product is less than useless. Unsurprisingly I'm yet to get a response.

I like what they are doing. This will actually help 99% of golfers. I am talking about the weekend warriors who just want a driver they can buy off of global golf. Others will want to know more information like shaft weight, loft and such. I like the idea. They have hit thousands of balls will people of all skill levels. They should get to monetize their research. All in All its only $7. Most of us have paid more than that at the turn for a gut buster that had us running for the halfway house.

how does "this site not to be mentioned" claim that this is a tool for those who don't have the means or ability to get on a proper launch monitor, then simultaneously ask for data such as AoA and swing speed that only someone who actually has been on a launch monitor would know, unless its a random guess which basically makes the fitting useless.

as others have mentioned, this has really changed my opinion for the worse of a site i used to think highly of

I dislike this crap app and thanks to op for posting.

After reading this https://Not allowed because of spam.com/truegolffit-golf-club-online-fitting-tool/ it clearly mentions it was them who develpoed this!

"Adam and Not allowed because of spam editor Tony Covey believe they’ve come up with a way to cut those odds down to even money for you, without ever leaving your house or even swinging a club."

I saw this pop as well and a buddy of mine tried it for fun. Gave him a 917 D2 and a srixon 765 as the "better player" option. No loft or shaft flex suggestions.

Not even a guy who goes into PGA superstore and buys a driver off the rack is going to be happy with such little info.

And, as stated, who is going to know their swing speed, AOA and tempo if they haven't been in at least a simulator? No weekend warrior who this app is supposedly going to help would know this info.

Completely worthless. They say it's an early version and will get better with time. If that is the case, then they released this to the public far too early.

Now it's $9. Popped up on me for the first time. Decided to Google it. Looks like a sham to me. Funny thing is, every manufacturer has a fitting tool just like this on their site, just for their own brand. So pick your favorite brand, and save yourself some money. I hate how combatitive those guys are on their website, IG, etc. They really do think they're better than everyone out there. That attitude just befuddles me.

I got a rough fitting online from one of the major OEMs. For bridge clubs, they recommended a 5W and a 2H! Not sure how a person who needs a 5W for single fairway metal can launch a 2H. Maybe because company didn't make 1 irons anymore?

What's In The Bag (As of April 2023, post-MAX change + new putter)

Driver:  Tour Edge EXS 10.5° (base loft); weights neutral   ||  FWs:  Calla Rogue 4W + 7W

Ball: 1. Srixon Q-Star Tour / 2. Calla SuperHot (Orange preferred)  ||  Bag: Sun Mountain Three 5 stand bag

  • 1 year later...

I tried the true golf fit fitting. They recommended Tour Edge ex’s Pro. Never thought a low spin driver would fit my 90 mph swing. Claimed I would get 18 more yards. They were wrong. I got 22! Unbelievable. I am a true believer now. Never in a million years would I have tried this driver or would a fitter have thought to recommend it.
