Cobra F8 Hybrid - Chicken Dinner

Gmachine

Recommended Posts

Everyone has a favorite club in their bag. Mine has always been my 3 hybrid. It's versatile for me and I've always been consistent with it. I've gamed the Callaway XR Pro (2015 version) and it's always outperformed the newer hybrids that come to market.

I recently demoed every hybrid at PGA Tour Superstore. Titleist, Ping, Cally Apex and Epic, M2 (2016 and 2017 models) and everything else they had. Settled on the M2 (2017) because it had a solid yet soft feel. After 2 rounds, I realized it wasn't as consistent. I normally play a slight draw but had more than a few shots fade (which never happens). For some reason, the M2 was just too hard for me to line up at address.

I went back to my XR Pro and considered myself out of the hybrid market. Until I saw the new Cobra F8 hybrid at Golfsmith. Demoed it and immediately fell in love with the feel (soft) and loved the look and it's so easy to line up. Didn't know what to expect from the dual rail hype but was happy to buy it.

Played it for the first time and let me tell you, it's my new favorite club.

My first shot was out of the rough on an uphill lie. This is where I noticed how the dual rails aren't just hype, as it glided so easily through the turf. I actually forgot about the dual rails but after I hit the shot, I wondered why the turf interaction felt so different and then remembered-- dual rails.

Off the tee was a breeze (209 par 3, no problem with distance, flight or setting up square).

On the course I normally play, 18 is a par 5 with a deep ravine surrounding the green. Hard to go for it in 2, so a long 2nd shot is always required to get a wedge into the green. I mishit the club (on the toe) but the ball continued to go with my slight draw. Perfect, even on a really toey mishit. This is when I realized how forgiving this club truly is.

Really encourage all of you to try this club. Such a fan of it and I hope to continue on with this love affair.

got the driver on the way. All the new Cobra woods are amazing. The nardo gray is sick - seems like it frames the ball well. Looking forward to it.

Congrats on the hybrid. Don't for get to practice chipping with it around the green, especially in wet or dicey conditions. Use a putting grip and putting stroke when doing so, you can thank me later :)

2017 M2 hybrid was a over-draw machine for me. Some may call it a hook machine :)

That F8 in Nardo Grey looks super good!

What shaft is in it?

The stock Aldila Rogue Pro, 70g, stiff. Super yummy.

The problem I had with the M2 is the line where the black face and white crown met wasn't parallel with the line of the notch on the crown. Visually, it always screwed me up. One of those "60% of the time, I aligned it wrong 100% of the time."

Nice club. What loft do you have it set up in? What I love about the new Cobras (and others) is the ability to change loft. I own three older Cleveland hybrids in lofts of 18, 20.5 and 23 and I just play two of those depending on the conditions or how I'm hitting them. With the new Cobra models I would only need to own two (3-4h 19-22 and 4-5h (22-25) and alter the lofts accordingly.

The new F8 hybrids are a bonded hosel. No adjustment to the loft any more.

I haven't hit the normal version...I did hit the new hybrid in single length and it is my sleeper pick of the year...I ending up ordering the king oversize hybrid it doesn't have the rails on it but was super solid and easy to hit as well...op glad you like it...looks sweet

Under construction....

I trying to decide if I should trade in my F7 hybrid for the F8 One hybrid....I love the feeling of a 7 iron in a hybrid and the same distance as a normal hybrid. Also the F8 One hybrid around the green will help me too. Two clubs in one...Hahahaha

  • 3 weeks later...

Came across the F8 One Length hybrid at the store and was very impressed - seemed very consistent and miss hits still got out there via LM. I rarely hit 19 degree or 3h hybrids well because the shafts are just too long for me (even if I cut down the shaft) but not this club. I felt in control of the club throughout the swing. This club seemed to have longer carry and more roll versus the F7 hybrid which I also hit. Might have to purchase one.

I like the shape but do not like the gray. Sure wish they offered it in black. Also sad they took away the adjustment. Was waiting for these to come out but think I'd go with the F7 for hybrid. Glad you're liking it and thanks for information

Can you get the OL Hybrid with any shaft? Is it a 5 iron length or 7 iron?

I'm glad many are liking the F8 hybrid. I've always been a fan of Cobra hybrids, but I cannot get past the looks of this one. I wish they offered it in all black. I may be getting an F7 on the cheap as I love everything about that club.

A little late on the reply, but I would highly recommend the F7 hybrid. I bought one at the end of last season. It took a little bit to get used to, but it is absolutely incredible.

Man, I just could not hit FW and Hybrids with those rails on our tight, thin SoCal fairways. 1 of every 3 shots was a top, and I rarely ever topped shots before that. I had to go back to a BioCell fairway and hybrid. All better now. I would have liked the rails in Kansas with actual grass, but we don't get that here.
