Do you think you will be playing golf the rest of your life? Tell us why?

Started playing around ten years old and will continue until I physically can't. This game provided good exercise for the body and mind. I love the buildup of preparing for a competition and risk vs. reward decisions. Golf also allows us to compete with others of different abilities, experience level, and physical conditions. Its also a great way to spend time with friends and family. My daughter, ten years old, is just now getting interested. Time on the range with her is priceless.

Started playing at 28 (43 now) after my baseball/basketball/volleyball recreational "career" was over. I fully plan to play for the rest of my life to keep the competitive juices flowing.

In all honesty I don’t expect to.

Upcoming life changes are going to likely cause a big drop in the amount of time available for play. And with the expected drop in level of play that will likely come hand in hand with the fewer rounds, I just don’t see myself continuing. I hope I’m wrong.

And yes, I am very much a pessimist!

Due to my goofy swing and the high amount of golf I'm playing in my 30s, as well my dad's experience, I have a feeling that my back is going to be completely shot by the time I am at retirement age. I am starting to feel it a little now. So, I'm trying to play as much as I can now while I'm in good health, half expecting that I'll need to find a new hobby by that time.

Sure. Why not? Seems to be a worthwhile recreational activity. As long as I remain physically able to, the good Lord willing. Continuing the quest for improvement beyond mundane mediocrity. But not willing to invest the time nor resources to become serious about it. Play well enough to find pleasure in the activity. And the continuation of trying. The results become increasingly less important (playing without a scorecard in hand is quite liberating). Enjoyment of where and with whom is the important part.

Furthermore, there is a young one around that will require me to keep at it for awhile (another 20 years or so should be enough). In order to teach him the fine points of how to play the game. And play some rounds together. The young kid playing from the back tees, out driving grandpa by 100 yards, playing from the forward ones. Can't wait.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

At 64 years, I hope my body continues to cooperate.

Worst case scenario, if I couldn’t play the course, at least hit a bucket once in a while.

No. I thought I'd be racing triathlons till the day I died. I absolutely love the sport and spent 10s of thousands of dollars on it. After 22 seasons I quit.

Golf. As in Tris the competition is mainly with yourself. When I'm loosing to myself I'll find another sport. I've scores in the 60s. Been as low as a 2 cap. When I can't play in the 70s on a good day, I'll probably quit.

I've done this a bunch in my life. Tennis, basketball, triathlons, snow skiing, scuba diving, cycling, mtb biking... When I've been there done that, I'll move on.

They will have to pry a golf club from my cold, dead hands. I'm in a pissing match with Father Time, and I have plenty of ammo.

Yes.

Why? Im 60 now and Ive been knocking em around since I was 11 years old. Whey in hell after a whole life time would I ever stop? I honestly would not know what to do.

Golf is a great game, and unlike some other sports, it can be played your entire life if you have the desire, the health, the $, etc.

So how about you, looking into your future plans as you see them right now with this great game, do you think you will be playing golf the rest of your life?

Golf the rest of my life? You bet! I thought I might work the rest of my life, but I gave that up a couple years ago so I could play more golf. I'm back to carrying my bag and I'm in better shape now than when I was 40.

I really hope so. I first played at 4 and have been playing seriously since 9 or 10, so I feel like it's something I should be able to do forever.

However I have also played to a 0-5 cap for the last 15-20 years, and if I get to the point where I cant maintain that level of play I'm not sure how I will react.

I would hope to take it in stride if and when my body and game eventually start to break down, but I'm not sure I could enjoy a round of golf where my goal was to go out and shoot 85, no disrespect meant to those who are playing at that level, but when you have expectations of a certain level and have to temper them that much, I just cant be sure.

Absolutely.

I'll play until I am put on my deathbed.

Outside of a few people and my dogs there is not one thing more important to me than golf. It was there for me when I had few friends in school, it was there when I was at the lowest points in my life, its where I go to relax or chill out if even for a few hours and no matter how crazy or terrible life gets the golf ball has never lied to me.

I think I will, it's the only sport I do now so its good to keep active. There may be times when I have to slow down my playing I.e. when kids come along but the wife says I'll still play she has no issues.

It's a game for life that's for sure.
