This tournament has the smallest purse of the year along with the ISPS, VoA, and Volvik. It's strange that there will be 3 hours of coverage on Thursday, but only two hours for the remaining three rounds. The weather forecast looks beautiful, although the early morning groups will tee of with temperatures in the upper 40's to low 50's. Winds are supposed to be less than 10 mph for all four days.

Sung Hyun, Ariya, and In Kyung are sitting this one out, but the other Top 10 players are in the field.

It's very hard to go back to back, but my pick this week is Brooke. She looked like she was on a mission at the CPWO, and having won this tournament in '16 and '15, she knows the course well. In Gee should also contend.

This is normally the week I pencil in Brooke for another win but I think she'll run out of gas like SHP did this week at the CP. I don't think we give enough credit to the mental energy that is used in getting a tour win. If you look SHP last week she was still playing great golf but on the weekend lost a little bit of mental focus and start hitting a few more loose shots here and there and adding a few bogeys to her score, which gave a -2 round instead of a -5 or -6. I think the same will happen to Brooke this week (it's understandable). It makes Ariya's accomplishment a few years ago even more incredible.

This week I'm gonna trail Paige Mackenzie's pick of Anna Norquist, she is trending in the right direction and this could be a great week to sneak out a win before the Evian

Yes, she absolutely should. But In Gee is now that girl I wrote a note to in grade school asking her if she liked me, "circle yes or no," and she wrote back "maybe." Dang you In Gee, quit toying with my emotions! Would very much like to know what's going on, just doesn't seem to be able to string together 4 solid rounds. Really hard to see as "deserve" is a concept the golf gods ignore often.

In Gee is currently ranked #47 in ballstriking. Last year at this time she was #10, so something has definitely fallen off. I'm blaming the driver. She's currently #81 in Total Driving. She finished 2017 at #18. She's only averaging 246.3 yds off the tee, and is behind Pornanong, Inbee and In Kyung. She was averaging 252.2 yds at the end of last season.

She's currently 11th in putts per GIR, up two spots from where she finished 2017. In Gee seems just a tad off on her reads. I'd suggest she try a different putter. That old Ping blade putter of hers isn't getting the job done.

She lost her mojo when she decided to change her look. It's time to go back

In Gee was on my mind for this one too, because of last year. Then I'd been very happy for Stacy to finally break the most-talked-about drought, and super impressed by her donation, didn't worry much about the near miss for In Gee, figured there's always next time. Now a year later, I feel a lot less glib. That solo 2 looks a giddy wonderful thing, let alone an outright win. Really hope the tourney still suits her and she does well.

I'm all for the look theory ... maybe In Gee is Sampson and needs her locks...

Brooke sure looks like a darn smart choice, as long as she's not in a post-euphoria trough or something, so much going on with her. Very happy for her for the home-ground win, that's the stuff that's so wonderful to actually happen in real life.

We might be on to something. If she grows her hair as long as Inky, she's going to be in the HOF within 2 years! :cheesy:

Yeah, I like this course, too bad the purse is so low I would love it to draw a better field. I'm not sure how this course is playing this year but it's usually one of two was ( I guess like everywhere lol) , soft where there's lots of scoring and the winner hits around -20 or firm and fast where the winners usually hits -14. I hope it plays firm and fast on the weekend, I find it a much better watch. I remember the greens being a little bit tricky under these conditions

Both Kordas are in Korea playing this week's KLPGA major championship.

Is it a sponsorship thing? Although I don't know what the purse is in Korea I'm betting it's equal to or greater than the 1.3 M available in Portland.

Nelly is sponsored by the title sponsor , Hanwha. They have sponsored several American girls, with the prerequisite of blonde hair and long legs.

I calculated the purse, it's equivalent to $1,261,943.39. The title sponsor is Hanwha who sponsors the front of Nelly's hat. Jessica is there I am guessing as a chaperone.

The Hanwha is a major on the KLPGA, and has the biggest purse of the season if I understand correctly. Previous winners include such "no names" as Sung Hyun Park, Haru Nomura, Hyo Joo Kim, Sei Young Kim, So Yeon Ryu, Na Yeon Choi, and Se Ri Pak.

The use of the formula is usually a good one for most things in life :)

When I look at Jessica and Nelly, I feel like they could and should be dominant players on the LPGA tour but the sense I get is they don't care if they are.

Both are excellent ballstrikers. Jessica is ranked #5 in ballstriking, and Nelly is #9. At the highest level it all comes down to having a hot putter. Jessica's warmed up early in the season, and she had a sold run. She's currently 5th in putts per GIR. Nelly is ranked #31, and has some work to do.

Interesting. Karen Stupples is teeing it up this week on a sponsor's exemption. Says she is playing in order to gain more insights as a commentator, or something like that.

24 replies by Wednesday on an LPGA event with the smallest purse of the year. Is this from Brooke moving the needle with last weeks win?

I attribute it more to boredom at work.

Please tell me Judy is calling it a career....I really respect her for her playing career and commentating, but a 73 yr old grandmothers voice does nothing for the TV crowd, it reminds me of Granny reading me bedtime stories as a child.
