Your Golf Stereotype

Twism86

Recommended Posts

i admit it -- i have a tendency at times (especially if i know the person i'm playing with) to talk to my playing partner's golf ball.

One of my biggest pet peeves is someone talking to my ball... especially a putt! Shut yer yap until it's in or past the cup! Feel free to then make a smart a** comment about the come-backer. I'm fine with that....

I'm one of those guys who tends to be too hard on themselves and expect too low a score vs. how often I play/practice. I'm trying to focus on quickly moving past a bad hole or holes.... keeping a "I'll get a birdie on the next hole" attitude instead of a "well I just screwed up the score for this side" attitude...

Not me but the guy I paired with in my league is the “high handicapper who thinks he’s a pro swing coach/caddy”

Not here to bash the guy because he always means well, just doesn’t understand when enough is enough. Trying to tell me how to play my shot while I’m in the fairway and he’s over in the woods somewhere. Will stop you even if you are addressing the ball if he feels you didn’t read your putt well enough or take enough practice swings....loves to argue if you ask him to politely mind his own business because he’s doing it for the benefit of team (but that might be more of an alcohol consumption issue). This resulted in a few not so friendly on course altercations with him, one being 15$ payment to him to replace his wedge shaft...I’m sure you can imagine why he needed to replace it.

I'm the range rat. I tinker with my swing a lot. On few occasions on the range, i enjoy a little ego boost when i feel the eyes of onlookers stop and spectate a string of swings with the driver (golfwrx brag), and quietly move on.

On course...im all about ready golf. Not particularly too fast of a player, but i can't stand being paired up with a player that's still fumbling about on the tee when they're honored last. I typically took my rounds too seriously, but i recently got some friends into the game, and they're totally laid back after missing tap-in 4 putts, 3 provisionals of the tee, losing a dozen balls during around, and still get off the course in < 4 hrs. Maybe cause they're my buddies, so i don't give them flack, and i see they're having more fun with that attitude.

I'm known for being brutally honest.

...it gets me in trouble but not with quality individuals, just the giant puss_es who can't face reality.

In my defense, I'm just as brutally honest with myself and I'm never offended by what someone says. I call them full of s*** or I take it on the chin and admit my shortcomings.

my favorite honest remark my Dad would tell people: when they were inappropriately cursing, throwing club etc.,” you’re not good enough to be mad about bad play”

I can recall every shot from my last half dozen rounds, but I never remember what my wife just asked me to pick up at the grocery store.

I can shoot even par when paired up w/ total strangers, but card an 82 every time I play w/ my brother in law (prob bc he talks $hit and gets in my head).

I will not wear more than 1 brand at a time (aside from FJ shoes/glove)

If I’m playing by myself, I play 2 balls so I can get in 36 holes.

Ready golf unless there has been a birdie in the group

shows up early to warm up

cleans my golf shoes after almost every round

my belt/shoes/hat have to match

always forgetting sunscreen until about the 4/5th hole

has entirely too many pairs of golf shoes

Thinks he can get down to scratch one day.

You’re the type I’d tee up with anytime.

Me and the guys I play with are just there to drink some beer and have a good time together. If there's a group behind us that are swinging the sticks well, we usually always let them play through because we know we are slower than most. If we are having a terrible day swinging the clubs, we might just stop keeping score on the back 9 and enjoy the rest of the round. With that said, I am slowly trying to get better and get a little more serious about the game. I shot in the low 80s last week (which is my best game ever, by far), and now all the sudden im much more interested haha.

I don't understand. It only takes 15 minutes for water to get into a golf ball when it's submerged, anything you find in a pond is going to be useless. Balls I find in the rough/woods? Sure, I'll take it. I won't touch balls that come from the water

Usually only takes me a minute or two to get from the tee box to the pond that I hit my shot into. If I can retrieve my ball easily enough then I'm going to. No point in throwing away $5 or whatever it was that the ball cost me. I've golfed with people who spend 5 mins at the pond fishing out whatever balls they can see in there. Hell with that. I'll grab my own then move on.

Ahhh didn't think about that. Totally agree with the guys who take 5-10 minutes fishing out a dozen or two. My ball, I usually just take a quick look and if I can see it I'll drop my wedge in to pick it out

I won't spend more than a minute looking for a ball

I spend an inordinate amount of time on this forum

I play approximately once a week, and look forward to it more than you can imagine

I enjoy the stylistic aspects of the game, am fairly quiet on the course but vocal for other people's good shots

I love all things golf equipment related, but have had the same irons in my bag since 2005. However, this is going to change as of the fall when I switch over to the Mizuno line.

I like to play alone and prefer 2 hour rounds.

I take 3 or 4 practice swings...still 2 hours.

If I dont start out the first 5 holes at 2 over par or better....it turns into a practice round of sorts. If I nail a few birdies or an eagle then it's game time again.

I ride my highs as hard as my lows.

When I'm on fire...I'm the best golfer I know. When I'm bad ..I take a break from the game. I have the ugliest swing you will see of a low capper.....ever.

Don't fish for balls...but I will tin cup a hole in a heartbeat.

No shot is impossible..just improbable.

Optimist about everyone else's shots and pessimistic about my own.

This is me when playing with people I know. They'll be complaining about their rounds and I'll constantly be bringing up all the things that they are doing well and why they shouldn't be upset about it but in the back of my head I'm critiquing myself for that 3 putt or the OB shot off the tee and how I'm playing horribly.

I'm the ready golfer.

Unpredictable schedule so I'm also often the solo golfer.

My fixation on ready golf has rubbed people the wrong way before. If I"m ready to play and it is safe to play, I play. Occasionally I've been paired with someone who did not appreciate that.

This is me when playing on my own! I tend to keep to myself and play solo a lot. I stay quiet and always try to play ready golf when I get paired up. It's gotten me in trouble a couple times but surprisingly I've met a lot of players who are all for ready golf.

From other golfers I am:

1. The always takes the hero shot, and doesn't pull it off at least 75% of the time guy

2. The shoots 5 strokes under his handicap and best round in years and yet isn't happy with it because of the two 3 putts and the triple bogey guy

3. I've been paired up with people and within the first couple holes asked, what team I play or played on. A few holes later, the couple triple bogeys pop up and they say "Oh, nevermind..."
