I500 Questions and reviews...

I am wondering everyone's feedback thus far on distance, workability forgiveness and all of the above??

I am gaming the forged tec Black cobras now and have shop credit to burn.

I never got along with any ping irons with the big bounces of their clubs except the S59 and Anser irons and S55 I liked.

Are the I500 players irons but longer and more forgiving but still look clean at address?

I heard they go way high so not sure what shaft to pair with them.

Thank you.

Lots of threads on this but, I find them workable, flight able (is that a word?), And easy as heck to hit. Coming from s55, only real difference is they get bigger as you go up in irons. Looks are amazing, blade looking, sole about the same as s55, feel is subjective but I'm a fan. Huge fan. Irons have not been the problem with my game as of late.

I use same shafts as my S55, don't think they launch higher but fly higher and stop right next to their pitch mark, even with longer irons. Wind hasn't affected them yet, but I haven't had a real windy day yet.

Sweet, i watched some reviews and guys were saying low spin was an issue holding greens

I have 36 holes on mine and have had zero problem stopping them. I also have a set of 790's and had more of an issue stopping those than the i500's, although I did go with a different shaft. TBH I believe it is more the shaft than the head with the 790's. I have PX 6.0 in the i500's and Modus 130's in the 790's.

... You have to read negative WRX comments with skepticism. P790's are UNPLAYABLE with terrible feel, hot spots and fliers galore. With the black finish you can add 10 adds to those fliers :derisive: . i500's are pretty much the same and the lack of spin that can't hold a green is just silly. Yes, they spin less than most players irons but that means instead of backing up a foot or two they will hit and release a foot or two. I have never had any trouble holding greens with my P790's or ever experienced a flier unless there was grass between the face and ball, just like any other irons I have played. Distance irons are certainly not for everyone for a variety of reasons, but if you are a solid ball striker and can use the forgiveness on your off days as well as the few additional yds in the mid and long irons, they are a great iron for single digit players as well as mid and some high index players. I have not hit the i500's but imagine they are very similar in performance. One aded feature of a little less spin is they are excellent irons in the wind and I love playing knockdown shots with mine.

... So just like ignoring the man behind the curtain in OZ, do the same for those saying distance irons are UNPLAYABLE, have hot spots, produce fliers and cannot hold greens. I am a smooth swinging 100mph speed driver of the ball and at age 65 playing to a +1.3, distance irons have been a real boon to my game. And covering a broad spectrum, TollBrothers is a young 120ish mph player at a +1.4 and he plays a full set of P790's.

Agree, it's all relative. I was backing up 6i down, now they just sit next to the ball mark. No negative there. Leave monster ball marks though, because of descent angle. Wind play is still out there so far but 10mph or so, seen very little I'll affects. We'll see when that TX wind picks up again.

Yes, I noticed the sole of the i500 has noticeably less width than the i210 - which I thought was odd. I've hit the i210 on grass and liked it; the i500 was only hit on inside mats, and results were good with Recoil SmakWrap.

I just returned from hitting both the i210 and i500 outside on grass with range balls. Both were standard length and lie with stock steel shafts. Honestly, I didn't notice a major difference between the two in terms of feel, height, distance, or forgiveness. I could game either and be thrilled. Gun to my head, I would give the i500 the slightest edge in forgiveness, but only in the loss of distance category. Up against my gamer clubs (z765 with Modus tour 130) all 3 flew the same distances and even heights. All can stop on a dime. With any club it all comes down to strike. One of these sets will be mine once I can test on course with my game ball, but right now I can't decide. They look, feel, and perform so well. Hats off to Ping, they are making some great equipment right now.

The i210 had the 120 s300 and the i500 had the 105 s300 when I hit them. The only difference I noticed was the i500 felt more head heavy and the i210 felt more like a consistent weight throughout the club, if that makes sense.

I personally would have to hit on a launch monitor to see what kind of spin rates each shaft was producing. But both shafts felt nice and produced a great ball flight for me anyway.

Played 9 holes in Laughlin, NV this morning at Laughlin Ranch Golf Course. I did notice that the ball did launch a little higher but they also carried at least a 1/2 to full club longer than my Apex CF16's. When hit flush, they just feel wonderfully solid and inspiring.

The Wedge doesn't seem to be gapped correctly, but I'll have to test it a little more.

What did you notice with the wedge?

I happened to notice that myself I did the power spec Lofts and it's really odd that they would go very short increments on the long irons and then 1-2* degree bigger gaps in the short irons, I wonder what the theory is behind that??

I wasn't so sure about that....

For me it’s the pings. Maybe because of the different shafts but I have been hitting the ball much better with the pings.

All specs are like that. Gives me 15 yd gaps from PW through 8 iron, then 10 yd for all the rest. Seems the logic is that the smaller clubs (higher lofts) don't get as much spring. I've actually though about lifting up the PW through 8 to even then out a bit, and my 46* wedge fills the gap. Funny though my PW is 45, and gets 10 more yards than my wedge. That's the face doing it's job.

I think minor adjustments can clean that up, or since they are scoring clubs, swing adjustments can be made, i.e. choke down, saw'd off, open face, etc. Easier to drop a few yds off a higher lofted club than a 4i for example.

Thanks, yeah for me with most of my clubs I actually Gap my lower end 15 yards apart and it works for me but with the power spec Lofts that may throw things off a bit and I really don't have any room in my bag for an extra wedge so I will have to play around with things
