Still Gaming TeI 3 Putters, Anyone???

Recommended Posts

I've always liked the TeI series and knew one day that I'd get one to try out, very intrigued about the copper insert + elastomer cavity. Long story short, I just bought a '98 303SS Xperimental in really good shape and hope it'll be a solid gamer.

How many folks are still bagging these TeI Scotties still?

I'm even considering installation of a little 5-10g tip weight into the shaft if it needs to be a tad heavier. Posted wt is 332g.

Curious to how much weight you can add to the hosel before it affects performance. My studio stainless weighs exactly 330 and my long neck TeI3 weighs 335.

Sure would like to get them up to 340- 345.

I don't think 5-10g would hurt anything honestly

I’ve had a TeI3 Newport in the bag most of the summer. Only insert putter I’ve enjoyed rolling. One layer of lead tape on the sole gives it a tad more weight and also protect the finish. The lighter weight never really bothered me, I played an old school sound slot Anser for years.

I have several TeI3's in the collection, along with a Button Back. I game one of my TeI3 Newport 2's as well as one of my DelMar 2's from time to time. I have 10 g's of tungsten powder down the shaft of both of them as well as some lead tape on the DelMar. Love the feel.

I've gotten over the heavy-putter rage and have settled on a weight in the 340g range. I lose too much feel with heavier putters and my distance control suffers.

The TeI3 Santa Fe is just about the most beautiful putter ever. It’s a real shame that Scotty doesn’t make putters like this anymore.

I have a Tel3 Santa Fe that is just a beautiful putter. It is not my gamer however. I will rotate it in every now and then but my best putting happens with probably one of the ugliest putters Cameron ever came out. The Detour....I make putts with it so it stays in the bag.

I have the same affliction with the original Futura!

I'm about to rotate back to my Tei3 Del Mar 2. I've been using the Mil-Spec for a while now because the Tei3 was in my backup set in California. Now I've moved there so they're back together.

Hey T

why not lead tape instead of the tungsten powder?

I'd like to heavy up mine, and was going to go the tape route

I've done both methods for additional weight on a putter. Depends on how much weight you want to add. When I was trying to get the weight of an older putter (330g range) up into the 350-360g range I did both tungsten powder AND lead tape on the head to try and spread / balance the additional weight out. 20-30 grams of lead tape is A LOT of tape on the sole and 20-30 grams of powder down the shaft throws the weight up too high on the neck and screws with the balance, so I would usually put 10-12 grams of powder down the neck and then add 8-18 grams of lead to the sole

I don't recommend more than 10-12 grams of powder down the shaft. Any more and it throws the balance of the putter off IMO (and in the opinion of a few clubmakers I've talked with over the years).

Now that I've settled on a head weight in the 340g range as my preferred weight, it makes it easy to do either tape or powder to get my desired weight. I no longer need to do both.

So now it usually depends on the putter itself. If it has a blank sole or one that is scratched up I will usually do lead tape. If the sole has some cool stamps or has a nice look, I'll use Tungsten powder down the shaft and then try to protect the sole with some putter tape.

Just snagged a Newport 2 TeI3. I stumbled upon the fact that I putter better with lighter putters (experimented with an old Anser 3). Can't wait to get it in and throw a blacked out Pingman grip on it.

Trying to decide what grip put on mine when it comes.

I've been using Flatso 1.0s for awhile now but just started messing around with another putter that's got a pistolini on it and I'm really liking it. Damn, just when I thought I was out, the pencil grips pull me back in..... A few wraps under of course, but still a dramatically change.

I own a Newport that remains all original. I use it once in a blue moon, but it has to be a very nice day with low humidity and zero rain. Probably one of the best Cameron putters ever produced after the Classic line.

I use to game my 99 Newport regularly but I have switched to one of the low compression soft cover balls. It feels like hitting a marshmallow and makes absolutely no sound when the ball contacts the face. It's a very strange experience. Fantastic putter but just doesn't give me any feedback with this golf ball.

Played my first round with my new to me Newport 2 TeI3. Really love the look and feel. Issue I'm having now is that the lie is way too upright for me and I'm struggling to find someone who can bend it. All my usual places don't do it any more.

I’ve been using a 2 ball lately, but when I do use a blade it’s my trusty Tei-3. I’ve got one that’s all original (down to the grip) and in immaculate condition. One of he best putters ever made IMO.

I bought the LE stainless one on a whim, cannot even explain what came over me. I've got a small amount of buyers remorse seeing as I'm "all in" on my second Byron order right now, but I plan to change out the ridiculous shaft that's in it now and give it a whirl. Maybe this will accompany my Byrons in rotation, we shall see.
