I met her at a Symetra event played at my (at the time) home course of Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont, CA. I remembered her from Big Break and I think she is from Burbank. Anyway she is extremely nice and was a joy to talk to. When she got to the Par 5 9th they were playing from the Black tees which measures 526 yards. She reached that green in 2 with driver/6 iron and hit her drive to a place that I never personally reached nor had anybody I normally played with and we always played the course from the Blue tees (one tee up). It IS an elevated tee box but its not on Mt Everest and it was a h*ll of a poke. She can move it for sure.

Oh and also this. The Par 4 12th (Champions Course) is a downhill dogleg right and she hit through the dogleg into a bunker on the corner. It is a steep faced bunker and she was close to the front. Pin was back so I'm estimating she had 140+ to this pin. She was so close to the front I thought it was going to be a layup. Instead she blasted a moon shot out that landed 10 ft from the hole (although she subsequently missed the putt). I asked in astonishment what she hit and she said she hit her gap wedge "hard". Yeah no sh!t. It is a pretty severe downhill approach and probably playing to about 125 but just to take that lip on was something.

For anyone interested Emily is entered in the World Championships going on now and she raked in her round robin group, even outpointing defending champ Sandra Carlborg. Emily's a gamer!

I wish Emily the best luck competing, maybe success in one aspect of the game can translate to more confidence in her LPGA career.

 

But sadly for me much like the MLB All-Star Homerun Derby, I lose interest in these long-Drive contests after about 10-20 swings lol

She can rip it out there. Nice to see her having some early success. Like watching her and Troy Mullins swing

Good effort from Emily to make the semis but Chloe Garner easily overpowered her. Emily doesn't have the speed to compete right now on a wet grid where carry is king. And balls were getting near zero release last night. But she says she's going to stay with it and get some speed training. Will be interested to see how she does next season. Great girl with a great attitude.

Too bad she'd have no status next year on LPGA , unless she comes through in the Q series. Angel Yin likes to brag about how she is the longest on tour. Would love to see these two paired up.

Tell Angel that Ariya says hello :) I also think that there many more players longer than Emily on the LPGA but the thing is nobody really for lack of a better term "frees the beast" when driving on the LPGA cause you wanna manage you misses. I think Lexi and Maude Aimee Leblanc and also Yani Tseng could really launch some if the really went after it.

 

Also not sure for a pro how difficult it is to get back to your normal tour swing. They normally go with the 48" driver so I think that could mess you up from a technical standpoint, if you're going back and forth between competitions

My daughter played in the USGA Girl's Junior with Angel Yin a few years back. I've never seen Emily hit it, but I saw Angel. I think she shot 66-65 in stroke play and I witnessed her hit driver-7 iron on a 545 yard par 5. Also saw carry a 3 wood to the green from ~270 with no problem. Granted, it was in Flagstaff, AZ (7000' elevation) but I've never seen a female player bomb it like that.
