Diamana D+ Recent Success on Tour
mjbaker80 ·

Hey, fellas!
Wanted to start a thread in hopes of learning more from you all about the D+ LE. It's having a heck of a run on tour....2 majors this year, Casey, TW. Of course, all 3 players will be gaming at Ryder Cup. (Yes, I know I don't swing as hard or as well as them). But, what do people know about this shaft? It's low/low but per MRC reps, it's not the lowest of low that they make.
Any thoughts on what shafts it compares too? Feel? Spin? Launch?
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't mildly interested in trying it seeing as I played a WB for years.
Crazy that MRC was about to discontinue production of this shaft...my guess is they are rethinking that!
Thanks!

I did a distance and dispersion test on three of the big fairways on my favorite course. I only compared it to one other shaft as I didn't have time to swap out more than one shaft on the tee. The dispersion was very, very good to my target point. And in 1 of the 3 tests it was the longest by a good 15 yards. On the other two it was shorter by 10 yards or so. So, on distance it was inconclusive, but for dispersion it seemed to offer an advantage for my swing.
I'm only playing a stiff, but I was concerned about reviews claiming it was very stout. I've found just the opposite. It's an incredibly smooth swinging shaft and very easy to load and release. Honestly, I was very surprised. I've also found it performs best for me with a smooth and controlled swing.
It's a quality shaft.

It's technically the D+Plus Limited that those guys are playing. If you look at the shaft you are kind of right that it is a cheaper model. It's got a lot of Mitsubishi's design technology but none of the exotic materials i.e. MR70 fibers and boron.
I know it was on the chopping block but I'm sure they'll keep making them. This is one reason why there is an advantage to putting Graphite Design shafts into play. If you don't like to change shafts very often they keep producing basically all of their models for years.

Good thing it was never a shaft that worked for me. Now I'll get other premium pills from people who think they're tiger and grab a d+.

Don't forget the PLUS. It might be the worst name ever for a shaft D+PLUS Limited Edition.

It is such a contrast to my standard shaft, the RIP Alpha. The Diamana doesn't like to be hard loaded from the top with a quick transition. But, I've learned the timing to lag it a little bit better. It's just a smoother overall kinda of swing than I'm used to (which means it might be someone else standard swing already). The question for me was it is as long as my RIP Alpha. Today on the long par 5 number 5, I hit my third longest drive ever. Even my playing partner, who outdrives me 9 out of 10 times, asked if that was the new shaft. I told him yes and he said to keep it in the bag.
Now third longest drive doesn't sound that great, but it was 54 degrees out and raining. Trust me, this shaft has the juice. For me I need to commit to it as the primary shaft, as I think switching between this and my RIP Alpha may be counterproductive.
In any event, I've been very impressed with the Diamana as a fairway finder. It excels for me in that area already. I was in 5 of 7 fairways today and the two I missed were because I found traps in the fairway. No lost balls today!

It is funny that whenever Tiger changes to a shaft that's been on the market for a couple years it becomes the greatest thing since sliced bread for some amateur in Michigan.

It's not funny, since I bought it before I even knew that Tiger was playing it. I don't see that Tiger was playing a RIP Alpha ever, so you know, you're just a waste of time.
I guess I should run out and buy a CK Orange hun?

But, yes, Tiger does move the needle and I’m guilty of foolishly wanted to try stuff that he uses. That doesn’t seem to be the case for Moo, however.

I had no idea those guys were using it. Groovy!
I bought it on August 24th. I don't even know when Tiger switched, but I think it was after that date. In any event, I never said it was the greatest shaft or whatever. Actually, I was pretty convinced it's not as long as what I have, but I am finding more fairways. I guess if it was the really the greatest it would be the longest ever and every drive would be right in the middle and yada, yada.
I was just giving my honest opinion. I'm digging it, but it's a big change in feel from what I've been swinging and that is also kinda messing me up a bit.

Commit to it as your “primary shaft”?? This confuses me. Why would you ever go back and forth between more than one shaft? Consistency is the name of the game in Golf. I played the same shaft for nearly a decade. grafalloy Blue. Went to a KKDC 70tx for two years to lower spin and I’m back with old faithful, the blue.
Definitely commit to one shaft and just play it. A couple years down The road if you get an itch to try a new one that’s fine, but test them and then pick one. Then 100% commitment to it.
Same thing and more so with iron shafts. Find a shaft that suits you and play it until you’re too old to swing It anymore. I played some special XX tour department Daiwa shafts for 20 years that I got when I was on staff with them in the 90’s until they were finally too stiff for me a few years ago. Now I’ve been with KBS Tour V 120x for 30 months, no plans on switching again until they are too stiff in a decade or so, or until my arthritis gets so bad I need graphite.
I realize on this forum Most of us love equipment, but everyone would do themselves a HUGE favor if they only switched heads when they want to be a club Ho and keep using the same shafts,

I hear you, but I've only had it two weeks. I have had the RIP for a long time. And I busted my other back-up shaft and wanted to try something different. I hit this shaft in a friend's club a couple of months ago and really liked it.
The reason for making a change is while I do hit the RIP Alpha pretty good, I always feel like it needs to be near the top of my power band, and I don't have that level every single time I play. I have an old Diamana Blue in the basement, but it doesn't match my swing very well and it hits the ball too high. I'm sure in a week or two I'll know if it is the right shaft for me. I'm leaning that way, but on average it has been shorter than my RIP. The decision is more fairways with the Diamana or longer with the RIP based on the play so far.
As for the club ho thing. I'm totally not in that camp. Until last year, I had the same irons for 8 or 9 years. The same 5 wood for probably 12. And the same putter for like 13 or 14. I find something that works and pretty much keep it for a while.

Have a D+ 90tx in my 3w, performance is great - solid felling
If I could find a 70tx d+ for the driver I’d get , but only 70x out there
D+ 70x torque is like 3.1 and Tx 2.9
I’m thinking I’d have to go limited d 70x to get something similar feel to my 90tx
