He was on the DP show this morning... a good interview. He confirmed he's just short of 6'1" and 208 lbs. Maybe a CB or FS, not close to LB given his comments about Urlacher in the interview. I loved the "Smedium" shirt quote too.

This is also a huge one, and its a word men just do not want to hear.

STRETCH!!!!!

When I was wrasslin' at USAW training camp there was a guy who said that if you spent 1.5 hours lifting, you need to spend 1.5 hours stretching. While I never got super duper flexible, he was 100% correct.

So true. I stretch after I hit balls at any level, regardless of whether I'm just hitting a few into a net or playing a round of golf. In my case I have to. I can literally feel things tightening up if I don't. I'm sure I don't stretch long enough but I seem to do enough in the short term. Learning more about stretching is something I need to follow up on. I think if I learned more about proper golf related stretching I'd be less likely to feel so constricted as I often do after a round or a round of practice.

Gym? Ha. About the only thing I do outside of being a golfer who uses a cart is ride a bicycle. I do enjoy doing that but no extreme long distance rides. Usually about 1.5 hours a day four days a week. I do enjoy daily wrist curls tho. :nyam:

Speaking of gyms...my youngest son is an OU recruit, we were on campus for the FlaAtlantic game. The gym there is absolutely incredible. I gained 6 pounds of muscle mass just touring the place!

I spent the last 3 months in the gym full time, and boy has it been horrible for my golf game.

Normally shoot high 70's, three weeks ago I shot a legit 97. I haven't been back on the course since. I just feel extremely tight when playing. The short game is still there, but my iron and driver shots were off the map. I figured it's more important to be in shape than to have a good golf game, so I'll take time off from the course until I hit my lifting goals, then go back and work through the fundamentals.

I really don't understand how Koepka and DJ workout the morning of tournaments. Like if I get a good workout in, I'm normally sore, or at least have muscle fatigue for that day and the day following. How in the world can they go blast out a full workout, and then go shoot a sub 70 round? I've gained around 30-40 pounds on all my lifts in the past few months, but lost distance with driver and everything due to inconsistent ball striking.

For 1, their morning workouts before tournaments are hardly “going full blast” and 2: Because their bodies are accustomed to it. Soreness will dissipate over time through consistent work in the gym.

“So I’ll take time off from the course until I hit my lifting goals, then go back and work through the fundamentals”. <— THIS IS LAST THING YOU SHOULD DO. If you think you felt tight and out of sync before then you’re in for a rude awakening if you do this. Kill it in the gym and swing a club/hit balls consistently along the way.

You’re welcome.

I've done the heavy lifting thing, the body building thing and about everything between.

The best results for ME for MY golf is just medium compound lifting 1 time a week for about 45 minutes and streching.

Too much mass and/or too little mass and I start to force my swing. When I'm hitting the workout sweet spot, I just have to torque everything on my backswing and let it go.

No forcing and it's just relaxed swinging within myself. Best results by far.

You need to build muscle to match your body. Too much muscle leads to injury.

Examples of Tiger and Rory. Got too big, ligaments will not handle too much muscle.

FYI, that’s inaccurate info regarding Rory.

With some research you’d discover Rory’s injury tear in 2017 was a hairline repetitive tear due to his unusual process of hitting thousands of drivers, 3 woods, 5 woods through his equipment changing process at the end of a full golfing season in 2016/2017. So the high repetitive pressures he endured through this extreme equipment process was the cause. Essentially a death by a thousand cuts type injury. This was also confirmed by other medical specialists / doctors that the Golf Channel invited onto to the show to explain.

In fact Rory had many back issues in his teens because he DIDN’T do any gym work (i.e. core, strengthening etc), these training programs actually PROTECT, LENGTHEN & MAXIMISE professional athlete careers. This is why Rory originally started his workouts for these very reasons and to make sure he safeguarded against any further back, muscle, ligament injuries. The only other injuries Rory’s had was his twisted ankle from playing soccer.

Yeah we all need better workout routines. I only go like once every 3 months or so. Doesn't do anything at all lol except make me hungrier.
