2 iron

Anybody use them?
Ive always used a 2 iron, I just like long irons. I prefer forged ones that match my set to. Anyways yesterday I was at a Golf Galaxy and saw a TA-7 2 iron with an x-100 shaft in it. I have a set of TA-7s for fun, and I thought I would get a 2 iron to go with them. I was hitting it on the screen and thought I would try and hit a stinger. When I did it went right through the screen! :vava: I had to get it. So does anybody else use a 2 iron? Why do you prefer it over a hybrid or fairway wood?

i've got a matching 2-iron for my set of nike pro combos but don't carry it in the bag all that often. i recently started using a pro combo 18* utility iron and really like it. low trajectory, great length and forgiveness.

Ive always played a 2 iron, im not that longer hitter, so I need a 2 iron for some of the long par 4s into the wind etc

2 iron is also a great driving club, and is easier to work both ways unlike a 3 wood which for some reason likes to draw when I try to cut one, and goes OB?

I played a nike blade 2 iron for about a year or so and it was superb, but very short hitting I thought

ive switched to a nike combo Tour 2 iron and have gained 8 yards carry distance and no loss in workability

I used to carry a MacGregor 1 iron blade. It was soooooo small but when u hit it on the buttons wow wee! :vava: I realized I wasnt good enough to hit it consistent enough so I took it out. Still got it though since the guy it was made for is well known. :D

My Dad still carries his 1 and 2 irons. They are the Titleist Custom Grind blades.

:vava: Always have used a 2 iron (or a 1 iron) and find it to be one of my most useful clubs. Invaluable for tee shots on tight holes and for long approaches into the 5s, and any time when the wind blows.

Always used a blade 2 iron, which generally matched my set. In the last 15 or more years I've majored on Mizunos (TP9s, TP11, MP14) with a brief stint using Ping Eye 2s. The BeCu 1 iron from that set still see use in the summer, and has been back in the bag recently.

Never had a problem hitting 2 irons solidly, on a medium trajectory, and I prefer the look and feel of a blade.

Never liked hybrids - struggle to get a consistent strike and flight with them, and my distance judgement is poor with them, leading to a low confidence level. Fairway woods also never have worked for me. I use a strong 3 wood (13*) and don't carry or own any more lofted wood that 15*. 4 and 5 woods seem to baloon on me, and, for whatever reason, I've never hit woods particularly well off the deck...

Always get, especially nowadays, people fingering my 2-iron whenever I play with strangers. To a man, you get comments like "why not get rid of this thing?" and "hybrids are much easier to hit you know" type comments from people who can't believe that it's possible for non-world class players to hit long irons well..

I've collected few 2 irons as of late: 2005 rac TP Tour Concept S3, Ping s59 tour, Titleist 762

I'm not a long hitter by any means,

but there's no sweeter feeling when you struck the ball perfectly with a 2 iron

you just don't get that with a hybrid

I too depending on the course rotate my hybrid/2 iron.

I rarely practice with my hybrid (rescue 19 w/ 904HB) b/c it's so easy to hit.

but I often practice with my 2 irons b/c it's fun.

I carry a 1 iron, no woods, Titleist tour model.

Trajectory control is better with irons, hybrids and ultilities tend to balloon in the wind and get the ball airborne too easily. 1 and 2 irons are great for hitting stingers and chasers!

Although if you're game is off the boil that 1 iron can be a ball breaker

I carry a King Cobra Forged SS 2 iron. I was using the the forged ss in 4-pw also but have switched to MP32 for the 4-pw. I have been using a 2 iron for years. Until this past year and a half I really never used my 3 wood.....until I got my Sonartec. I really have never been a fan of hybrids...tried a bunch of them. I hook the hybrids way too much and cannot find the consistancy that I have with the 2 iron.

I use the Titleist 681's and use the 2 iron more times than not. I have been fooling around with the hybrids, and when I play with my X-Tours or my RAC MB's I will use the hybrid that matches that set. I have been using the 2 iron for so long and was so confident with it, that I feel when I have to hit a fairway, I prefer to have it. I can see how the hybrids are the rage, hit them high, long and land soft, tough to beat that. Never say never, but for now, give me the deuce.

I recently switched from 4 wedges down to 3, so that freed up some space for me to carry my Mp30 2-iron. Depending on wind direction and pin placements, I may have to pull it out 1-3 times per round on my home course. I can hit it well off the tee up to about 235 yds, but I rarely use it out of the fairway. I'd strongly consider replacing it with a hybrid, but being lefty has limited my ability to test different clubs, lofts, shafts, etc. to find the right fit.

I carry a Callaway Big Bertha 2 iron DG S300 I had a 503H 22deg Aldila 85hybrid Stiff in the bag for about 2 months but I coudnt hit it off the tee and I didn't like the way it sets up therefore if anyone wants to buy it let me know. The Cally 2 iron is far more reliable off the tee straight or slight draw or off the deck power fade. At least with the 2 iron I know what Shape I'm gonna get.

depending on which set I use I either play a 1 iron or a 2 iron. When I play with my Titleist 690 MB's I use a Mizuno True 1 iron. When I use my Mizuno MP-37's I use the matching 2 iron that came with the set. Maybe it's just me, but those hybrid clubs just look funky weird :idhitit: at address. I can't hit them to save my life. I've tried a few, but I just play better with the irons as opposed to the hybrids
