Titleist 2018 Concept Irons (pics Pg 1 & 5)

Recommended Posts

... I never understand how the back of a club can garner so many opinions. How thick is the topline and sole? How long is it heel to toe? What kind of steel is it made from? What are the lofts? How much offset? None of these are answered by a picture of the back of a club yet so many love or hate them because of a useless picture.

Ever seen a girl ordering a drink from the bar and all looks good from behind and then she turns around and it looks like someone set her face on fire and put it out with a wet brick? Same thing.

Does a wet brick work better than a dry one?

Duh. Have you ever tried to put out a fire with a dry brick?

not that it will affect performance or the visual at address but it's a bit too busy for me, you have hard milling lines, soft lines and curve all going on together, ruined a what could be a great looking iron.

One could easily argue the that the P790 is TM's answer to the T-MB.

This exactly. The P790’s are most definitely TM’s attempt to compete with clubs like T-MB and Apex. But this is WRX and we jump from newest club to newest club at the drop of the hat so our long term memories aren’t that great.

Instructions unclear: threw bricks in fire and now am out of bricks.

On another note, wondering where titelist is going with these. Will it be one off offering & incorporate tech into new lines ala C16 or will this evolve into its own line and perhaps replace a current line.

Golf marketing is so cringe-worthy when it comes to club and shaft names. The "removing the vowel to make the word look cool" thing is about as "with it" as using a "z" to end a word instead of an "s". Ugh.

While I agree there is nothing we know other than the artistic design of the back, can you bring your analogy into the 21st century? Unless you work at CBS, many women may say the same about you. Something more gender neutral like a low-slung roaster with a mid-engine design with a 95 hp 3 cylinder engine. Looks great until you use it.

... LOL I always feel like anyone making these kinds of comments on a public forum should post a recent picture of themselves without a shirt on. That would probably stop about 98% of them.

Great isn't the first thing that came to mind.

Thats a hard no from me.

I would like to buy a vowel.

The irony here is - my guess - some of the same people that love these would drill a company like TM if they released the same thing.

My guess is some of the drilling that you speak of (if it was TM) would be because it’s TaylorMade’s 26th new iron set in the last 2 years and pretty much the exact club they’ve already put to market only with different badging...

...And a “cool new must-have attribute that will lead to better everything!!!!” that we’ve all seen over and over and over. RIBCOR, SpeedFoam, Twist-Face... it goes on and on and on... where they tell us this month it’s speedfoam that is a must have and next month it’s something else.

With all that said— and everyone knowing that I’ve been a Titleist fan since I was 13 years old these look to be a “HARD NO” from me as well. They don’t look great from the parts you can see, I dislike the name— especially hate CNCPT, SLDR, etc where they shorten the name by taking out the vowels. It looks very tacky to me. These may end up being better playing than they look but as of now... NO.

Ha. Wet brick. Growing up it was "put it out with a bag of nickles".

Oh, and I will need an address pic on that iron. Maybe sole. Probably just address...

Looks nice. As others have guessed, maybe this is Titleist's answer to the P790.

I never really liked the name of the T-MB. It wasn't very marketable, and maybe that's why I don't see much buzz about them outside of golf forums.

But I thought a butter face was a good thing on golf clubs?

Unless its a crater face aka Taylormade irons.

Lest we forget, Ping were probably the first to do this naming convention with the Anser. The story is that they wanted to call it the "Answer" but couldn't fit that entirely on the back bumpers of the putter. They deleted the W since it would read the same.

Maybe Titleist just ran out of room on the back of the iron? Tongue firmly in cheek, but just pointing out this isn't entirely a new thing.
