Recommended Posts

  • Race to the CME Globe: 625 Points
  • Format: 72 holes (If they're lucky!)
  • Purse: $3,850,000
  • Location: Evian Resort Golf Club, Evian-les-Bains, France
  • Par: 71
  • Yardage: 6523
  • History: This is the 19th year for the event as an LPGA co-sanctioned event, and its 6th as a major. In 2017, Anna Nordqvist mounted a Sunday charge with a five-under par, 66 to come from five-strokes back of Moriya Jutanugarn, the 36-hole leader, to force a playoff with Brittany Altomare. Tied at nine-under par, the pair returned to the par four, 18th where Nordqvist defeated Altomare with a bogey in the pouring rain for the win. The 2017 event was reduced to 54-holes due to inclement weather..

OK, time for the final major of the season. Looks like another dicey tournament weather wise. There are showers and t-storms forecast for Thursday and Friday. The weekend looks much better, so hopefully they'll get in all four rounds this time.

Double check your DVR recording schedule. My U-Verse box didn't pick up the 2nd slot on the first two days, and it also missed the NBC coverage on Sunday afternoon.

Tough to predict this one. Each of the previous major winners this season is in fine form. So Yeon, Minjee and Lydia are playing excellent golf, and Lydia was 3T last year, and won in 2015. Moriya and Sei Young both do well here.

The key will likely be the conditions. Will rain Wednesday through Friday soften up the course? It's almost certain they'll play preferred lies, which should make for low scores.

OK, time for the final major of the season.

I feel that this concept of Evian-as-major is not holding up. Among LPGA golf fans, who is excited for this event? No one.

And, I would argue that the insertion of a fifth major into the schedule, especially one as dubious as this event, serves primarily to undermine the overall credibility of women's professional golf.

I'm excited mainly because it's pretty much the only LPGA event in September. Had to wait two weeks since the Cambia, and until October for the UL. I think if they move this towards May the weather might be better and people can take it a bit more serious. Last year was a bit of a disaster.

I'd like to see what they come up with in the future for this supposed LPGA/PGA crossover event. Also maybe another team style event (player selected) or a high profile pro-am? Don't know, anything a little different to shake up the routine a bit.

I have no issues with the design of the course. Moving it back to July in 2019 should help with the weather issues.

Looks like we Canadians get screwed again, Golf Channels coverage ends at 10 AM on Sunday and then is picked up at 2:30 PM on NBC. So looks like GC will cut out of live coverage and stream the finish and those who can't stream it will have to watch the tape delay after the event is finished on the one day you wanna watch the end live. Great job Whan on running this Global tour you talk so much about.

The only thing I like about the Evian are the TV times during Football season lol

Soon as it was shortened 54 holes and the start of a round was wiped out, it stopped me from ever seeing this event as a Major again.

Whan admitted that they screwed up when they shortened it to 54 holes. I still believe it can be a good major once they get it moved back to July.

I'm going out on a limb this week and predict that we get another winner whose first victory will be a Major and say Megan Khang get's it done

'Just looked at the official money list, and Angel is the highest ranked player without a win. Jennifer Song would be next on the list. Lindy Duncan is the highest ranked player on the CME Points list without a win. Lots of young talent without a win, including Megan, Nelly, Bronte, Su, Yu, and Emma.

Sure all them are viable options, I'm just going with my gut and some recent form. Megan been playing very good recently, although she does have that one off round that seems to keep her out very top, many player have this issue though IMO. I think Angel Yin would also be likely from the player you listed. Emma Talley looked great in Wisconsin but that was an easy track and her results on tougher courses aren't consistent IMO. I think Emma needs a year of playing the courses and we'll probably see better and more consistent results next year. If it's gonna be wet over the course of the tournament, I'm looking at the longer hitters. Bronte fits that bill but she is so volatile, I think she still has to figure some things out as a pro.

I lost faith after reading that the tournament was shortened so they could be sure of having a parachutist land on the 18th green.

I still like the idea of Evian, but yeah they do really need to pull off a smooth tournament this year to begin to heal from last year. Really hoping for good weather luck.

I still maintain Sung Hyun ordered the round 1 wipe. I got it all figured out...

It might be In Gee winning here that makes me like it. But even so, what a locale.

I'm going with Minjee! She keeps coming so close, keeps giving herself chances to make it, it will happen again sooner or later.

Bronte has been playing good golf lately. Su Oh is killing me, she just can`t keep it together for 4 rounds. It`s coming though.

No four majors is not sacred, but an event should have some weight and history to be considered a major. If the Korean Open was the fifth major Im sure a lot less people would be annoyed by it, it would be a major in the country that is producing historically dominant talents and world class rookies on the LPGA, and people can see why it would fit in as a major for the ladies. The Evian feels like we wanted to keep the sponsorship so we let them call themselves a major. It doesnt even feel like it could fight for major status like The Players has with one of the stronger fields and a massive prize pool.

The Evian has a purse of $3,850,000, the 2nd largest purse of the year, and ahead of the ANA, WBO, and KPMG. The field has 20 of the top 25 players in the World. In Kyung and Michelle are out due to injury.

This has been an LPGA event for 19 years, and an LET event for 25 years. It's not like Evian walked up, plopped down a wad of cash, and asked to run a tournament. The WBO was established in 1976, and the ANA in 1972. The WBO became a major in its 26th year, and the ANA became a major in its 12th year. They're older, but certainly not in the league of the USWO (1946) and PGA Championship (1955).

I think one can argue that the status of major on the LPGA, other than the USWO and PGA Championship, is primarily driven by sponsorship dollars. The ANA, previously Kraft Nabisco, struggled to find sponsorship. Who knows how long it'll stay on the schedule if ANA doesn't renew. The WBO also struggled for years.

Lol. I assume I'm not allowed to say the ANA, the PGA Championship, or the Evian? I'll correctly refer to them as the ANA Inspiration, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, and THE Evian Championship going forward.
