The Vet I take my dgs to is gay. Shes never told me and never anounced it. I just know. Im sure everyone around Tad already knew.

 

1000% agree. Saying he is courageous for telling the public about your private life? Not so sure about that. It's 2018, there's lots of gays out there. Nobody cares about your sexuality.

 

Being in the military or in law enforcement or fire fighter or EMS......that is courageous!

A prior thread was locked. The title was sarcastic, and obviously there were tasteless comments that followed.

 

BUT.... it is wrong NOT to have a thread discussing his decision. It would be the equivalent of locking a thread about experiencing sexual harassment or racism in the golf industry. Fujikawa's decision to come out publicly is a brave action in a sport where the topic of being gay is taboo. Is this site really going to brush it under the rug, rather than allow open discussion about a VERY important issue. Last I checked the rules, sex and religion were reasons for locking threads. Sexuality IS NOT Sex. This is also not about Tadd himself and his decision to come out. It is much bigger than that. He did not come out for the personal attention. He came out to highlight and issue.

 

Why is it a "VERY Important issue? I prefer doggie style with my gf but nobody on here needs to know that.

I understand mods moderating tasteless comments and opinions, but there should be an active thread to discuss the issue, whether it be this one or another.

I can't imagine what it's like to have something so fundamental to my existance as my sexuality be kept under wraps for my entire adult life. I guess until you walk a mile in his shoes you won't understand why he did what he did. Kudos to him for coming out and hopefully it gives him some peace and help to move forward with his life.

I get that maybe 20-30 years ago things were very different for people who wanted to come out. These days, I can't help but feel like (and unfortunately) people struggle over this when the majority of people do not care at all and will still love and accept them.... despite political party, not sure why OP brought that up at all as it makes zero difference as to what side of the fence you stand on politically IMO. I am happy for him that he is able to get this out and live the life he wants but honestly, it's such a non story. He's still the same guy he's always been.

I don't see why it is a big deal and making news as well. One thing I don't understand is why their lifestyles need to be force fed on people who don't agree with it. It is the same as religious people force feeding their religious views on people. Everyone has their own value system. If you are gay, be gay and go to places where you find your like-minded folks. It really doesn't have much to do with anyone else.

It's a non-issue here because Golfwrx is an online forum and most here know how to tolerate other opinions, cultures and beliefs. If you don't, you get called out by other members or censored by mods.

 

Golfwrx though is not the real world. There are plenty of people out there that are not ok with alternative sexualities and lifestyles and so I wouldn't be so quick to say that no one cares.

Not really news in 2018. By the law of averages there must be at least 5-10 on the PGA and European tours. Rumours have been around for over 20 years about one prominent player and nobody has made a big deal out of it. They are held in the highest esteem for their personal traits and sporting prowess.

Professional golf is arguably the most conservative environment in all of sports. It is a scary endeavor, personally and professionally, for a male player to come out as gay.

 

This is a very big deal. Good for him. It takes a lot of courage.

This thread is exactly why I prefer to golf alone and stay as far away from the “Country Club” culture as possible. If you can’t see or fathom why this is profoundly important then thankfully the next generations are moving beyond your level of close mindedness.

well... I would suggest that it is still a bigger deal than many are comfortable acknowledging. I used to play golf with somebody who openly disparaged "faggots," and I've heard other golfers use the term during rounds. I played poker just last Thursday night and one of the players at the table (in a private home game) started complaining about "faggots" and how they ruin society and how "wimpy" "they all" are -- and I, a patient gay college professor, with a black belt and tournament fighting experience as a hobby, looked at him and smiled ...

 

So, anyway, it's still unfortunately a "deal" in golf and elsewhere, though admittedly a much-less-big deal than it used to be even fifteen years or so ago.
