What’s really on the minds of the best golfers in the world? In the polite confines of the PGA Tour, it’s often hard to know. Until now. With the goal of letting players let it fly, we granted them anonymity and picked their brains on a wide range of hot-button topics (cheating on Tour! Tiger v. Phil! Brandel Chamblee!). Over two days of surveying, at the PGA Championship and the Wyndham Championship, 59 players participated, including four major winners, one 2018 major winner and three of the top-20 players in the world. The result? Sweet, sweet candor.

Thanks for posting. Pretty boring overall but who's the guy who said "“I made the weekend on the number, shot 60 on Saturday with a hangover and won the tournament.”. Should be possible to figure out.

I remember this, but can't remember who it was. Fairly sure it was a European player. I know Eddie Pepperell was hungover during the Open this year, but it's not him I'm thinking of. I remember whoever it was saying he thought he wasn't going to make the cut, so he started drinking in the clubhouse after his round on Friday and had already had quite a few beers before he realised that he actually did make the cut.

Always interesting to see what the guys have to say.

The two things that I take most from is the Tour guys, quite significantly picking Thomas over Spieth when it comes to major wins.

The other is that 56% of them have witnessed guys cheating but not one of them has failed to report an infraction from themselves. I have a hard time finding correlation between those two sets of figures.

This is good stuff and great questions. I'd take 10 wins for sure. You could win one major and fall off the tour. Like a YE Yang.

The players rightly take the 10 tour wins, shows there's more than simply winning a major.

Honestly I think that's a no brainer. You get 10 wins you're a respected golfer who's pretty well know in the game. Steve Stricker has 12 wins and was able to captain the President's Cup. The list of obscure golfers with one major is endless.

Some good quotes there.

90% believe Tiger will win another major, that's higher than I expected.

It tells me that the players, like the general public, get caught up in the hype. That figures way too high given he hasn't won a major for 10 years and is winless in 5 years.

Very interesting that despite the constant criticism he receives, most of it personal or lacking any critical analysis, Brandel Chamblee is highly respected.

Hype is absolutely the correct term. After all, the last golfer to win multiple majors after turning 43 was you Tom.

It all depends how its set up, right.

10 wins, or 1 major, and that's it?

When you win a major, your price goes up for events/outings, but it does fade. For example, if you could play in an outing, would you rather play with Furyk (1 major), Stricker (0 majors as stated), Fowler (0 majors) or Martin Kaymer (2 majors, 1 Players). I know Furyk/Stricker have more wins on tour, but players get endorsements based on who they are. That could get more money.

On Speith/Thomas, I don't want to take anything away from guys (bc you can do that with every player) and I don't want to downgrade any player. If you look at Speith, it's not that hard to see him with one major (Dustin doesn't 3 putt and he doesn't get that drop at the British). Again, you can say that about any player, and I know Thomas hasn't won the majors.

Not only is the ball going further, but the questions are too. Responses this year totaled 108%, up from only 100% last year. We need to roll back these questions before it’s too late!

And the guy said he has witnessed multiple rules infractions, and then blames the Tour for not endorsing the rules. HE is supposed to protect the field.

For what it's worth...posting a link is great, but copying and pasting an entire article here is likely to get the board in trouble at some point. I think it violates copyright.

How does any of this so-called data have any credibility after a goof like that? It's a fun article but that is all it really is, fun. Let us not mistake this crap for actual, reliable information.

This is one thing I think could easily be remedied IMHO. Why not have one tournament a year with a limited flight golf ball on a much shorter, tighter course. Everyone receives the same exact ball. Max drive is 275sh. Put the emphasis on shot making and not annihilating the ball 360+ Playing some of the most classic and iconic courses around the country could be fun.

Also, why not have a tournament where they play with clubs that are older in style? Persimmon driver and 3 wood. Irons wouldn't be all that different I suppose. I like the limited ball tournament idea more...I think
