What would you do?

So I took part in a cancer charity fundraiser, that is centered around golf. Basically you commit to raise $900 and you get to play Double Eagle Golf Club here in Columbus. Pretty nice course, great cause. I have great family, friends and Customers at work so I raised a good amount. if you raised over $1,750 and were in the top 5 of money raised, you got a free set of Custom Fit AP1’s and a Titleist Stand bag with the charity logo on it.

 

Here is my conundrum: I just bought a set of Callaway Rogue irons in Feb. I did get fit for them, so no advantage there. I work with a lot of the guys who run the charity, and he mentioned if I don’t want the irons I could get some other Titleist Clubs as long as the math works out.

 

None of the Clubs in my bag really need replacing.

 

I was thinking 3/4 Hybrids and a Scotty Cameron?

 

What would you do? Take the Irons and sell the Rogues? TS3? Wedges? I get the fitting no matter which clubs I choose, so there is that.

If you like the irons, definitely keep what you got. If you want a Scotty, go that route as you can usually get a decent resale on Scotty Camerons if you change your mind later. If you still need to use up more money, go with a wedge fitting for Vokeys.

I could check into paying forward, it is my understanding that the charity is not paying for the clubs, so not sure how that would work. I will definitely check into that though!

This is probably the best idea. At least the most noble. As my late grandmother would say, “it’s another star in your crown.”

 

But nobody would blame you for taking a gift for being a good fundraiser.

 

Since you don’t really need the irons, split the difference: get fit for wedges and use the rest for a Scotty that goes to a silent auction.

I think the TS woods are awesome, so I’d go with a custom order of new woods with some stellar exotic shafts. Anything left over would be for some backup vokeys. Def would not use for a Cameron

Is there a golf tournament associated with the same charity event? If so, you could donate the fitting to the tournament as a prize/auction item. Or do the same kind of thing with the First Tee (or some other junior golf organization in the area). Lots of options if you want to give back the fitting.

 

If you want to keep the free fitting/clubs, maybe see if the TS woods are better than what you've got. Or, get some new wedges since those inevitably wear out. Not sure how they are valuing the irons, but you might be able to get a couple of woods and wedges in place of the irons.

 

Regardless of what you decide, nice work on raising lots of money for a good cause!
