Scratch golf

Recommended Posts

What does it really take to play scratch golf? Do I really need 300 yard drives? How often should I be getting up and down? How many putts should I take for how many greens? How many greens?

Just give me a general idea about what it takes minimum to be a scratch player. I'm a 6 right now, would love to be scratch by next year.

probably depends on the course distance as well. If you make 0 mistakes and drive the ball 240 followed up with a 3w @ 210 then basically you wont be able to reliably make par on any par 4s over 450 yards and thats if your 3w hits front edge of green and doesnt roll off. If your average par 4 is 420 and no longer than 450 then then 240 drive followed up by a 180 iron is doable but still pretty tough. You have to be exponentially better to make birdies from 180 than you do from 100yds. Thats why driving it 320 makes the rest of the game alot easier.

Except that the course rating and slope go up as courses get longer so you can shoot higher scores and still be a scratch golfer. On courses that have par 4s over 450 you don’t need many birdies and just have to shoot mid 70s to be a scratch golfer.

He just needs to play conservative, lol. http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/topic/1629752-ultra-conservative-mindset-costing-me-10-or-more-strokes/

LOL, had to edit. He confuses me.

Lots of good threads on here about what it really takes to get to scratch and easy to find. But averaging 85 strokes a round and honestly thinking you are getting there in a year (with all the other stuff he puts out, lol), you know he's not serious and just trolling again.
