Project X iron shafts. Would a 6 iron shaft tip trimmed and butt cut work for 7 iron?

If you follow this link you’ll see where RBG is selling them for crazy cheap. I only need 5-GW and plan on using the PW shaft for GW. But they are out of 7 iron. Can I cut the 6 iron tip/butt to make it work for 7 iron?

I'll be the first to jump in. Link isn't working for me.

You can tip trim a taper shaft about 1/4", and butt trim the rest, but it won't play true to the way the set was designed - whether or not you can notice that is all subjective and up to you. I wouldn't do it personally, but if the deal is too good to pass up I guess that's a decision for you to make. Also, even taper shafts, if new/uncut, come longer than final play length so some butt trimming is needed, so you could also consider buying an extra 8 iron and not butt trimming as much?

I may just get all the ones they have and then just go find the 7 iron somewhere else.

Also these are parallel tips? Would that make a difference?

Definitely! I thought you were talking taper, as I wasn't even aware PX come in parallel. Parallel you can do anything you want, within reason.

Yeah sorry. When they’re parallel they are essientially cut from a “stock” length right? Tip trimmed and then but cut?

Project X is a constant wgt shaft both as taper and Parallel, so we cant modify any of them to become "identical" with other shaft numbers, but they can be tip trimmed like descending wgt shaft but the tip section is not long enough to build full sets 3-PW if we started from a 3 iron, but its will be a cheap option for a set SINGLE length irons.

Yes. If I had a 6 iron shaft parallel shaft. I can use if for a 7 iron if I adjust the length to the standard 7 iron trimming the butt. But that the tip wouldn’t need to be trimmed.?

Since the shaft is made to handle the wgt of a #6 iron head, and you put a 7# who is plus 7 grams, you are "soft stepping" the shaft.

To make it as close to a #7 we can get, we start by cutting 0.5" from the tip, so "tip to taper" becomes like the #7 shaft is, then the rest from the butt.

(tip to first step on stepped shafts).
