Tiger Woods Custom milled grind 60 degree pics.

I saw this close up of Tigers 60 degree lob wedge on Instagram and thought I’d take a couple screen shots of it.

 

Pretty Interssting. Looks like a variation on a Vokey V grind. Looks like the whole center of the sole has been flattened a bit and then a pretty steep V grind put on the leading edge. Lots of heel and toe relief as well.

 

Definitely not finding this guy on the rack at Golf Galaxy.

Yep. I play the PTx. I love the V grind.

 

Interesting that the guys at Artisan use it as well. They did his Nikes of course and It’s no secret they had a hand in his sand and lob grinds that essentially have TM stamps on them. There’s no official word on how much “help” they gave TM on the wedges, but it’s petty much accepted that they essentially made them.

It’s by the leading edge. If it was that much across a wide sole it would be unplayable. This grind stops the leading edge from digging when there is shaft lean.

 

The wider the sole and the closer to the trail edge the bounce is the higher the bounce will play. This wedge appears to be high bounce at the leading edge and lower on the trailing.

The angle on the killed leading edge might be 34°, but that is not the bounce angle.

Tiger's wedge is very, very similar to a Vokey M grind or Taylormade ATV grind with a blunted or killed leading edge. It is a cross between an M grind and the Eidolon V Sole. It should be very versatile as Tiger can deloft (or play it way back in his stance) without the leading edge digging and he can also open it up for flops* without the leading edge being an inch off the turf. All while still maintaining a playable amount of bounce on normal shots.

 

*Many people will rightly state that you can play flops, even off hardpan, with a lot of bounce, but for many, myself included, seeing the leading edge of the blade just under the equator of the ball when the wedge is opened doesn't give me warm fuzzies.

I would call that beveled over blunted. It’s more of an actual sole grind than just a leading edge softening.
