Take a look at MP 60s. I don't know if you can find anything in good condition since they were released a while ago, but those are great irons with feel and forgiveness and the players look at address you're looking for.

If you want something newer, consider MP 25s. I've heard there are some really good deals to be had online on those irons, but haven't looked into it myself.

I still have my MP-60 in excellent condition. They were replaced with my JPX 900T but I will never get rid of them.

My MP 60s are in a box under my bed just in case.

I would have never said this a few months ago but I will solidly put my vote in on the i200. I hit them early this year at a Club Champion fitting and they were dead last out of all the heads I tried with my SteelFiber shafts. I loved the P770 and P750 and played well for about half the year. Then my game totally went way south. Out of frustration I sold my P770's, my P750's, and 716 CB's. My premise was that all my game deserved currently was an iron set costing $350.00 or less and I would punish myself with a bargain used set of the club I had hit so poorly at my fitting ( I am not real smart)!

I have had two range sessions and my first 18 yesterday with the i200's with Modus tour shafts. It was an easier course but carded a two over and the irons were just so easy to hit. I had no trouble repeating distances once I understood this set up was longer than what I was playing (and I had lofts bent 2 degrees strong on my other sets). Of course that is one day but I know that the irons can do what I need them to do. Of course with something this forgiving, they take a little more effort to shape in a big way if needed. But, hitting big cuts and draws gets me in trouble more times than not anyway. Being confined to gently shaping shots is probably a good thing for a guy with my abilities (or lack there of).

Thanks for all the suggestions let’s keep it rolling! What about the ping s56?

You might be able to find a nice set of mp62 irons, but I’m not really convinced that they offer more forgiveness than any of the mizuno blades. I’ve played most of the mizunos over the years and have tried on a number of occasions to get Pings to live in the bag without much success. I found that years with narrower sole low bounce blades in the bag made me a bit sensitive to the amount of bounce (which is in turn a bit enhanced by the sole width) on all the ping models (i5, i20, s56, i200). I’ve had some success so far this year with the i200 but if conditions firm up the feel of the sole on the turf is much more noticeable compared to the mp62.

That said, there is no question that the i200 is more forgiving than the 62 and the s55/56. The i200 long irons might be the most reliable and forgiving irons I’ve had in the bag since the Eye2 back in the 80s but hat may be a function of really liking the shaft (DG120) in the set.

I think the mp62 is their best strictly non-blade/mb offering. The design is solid, the visuals are familiar, and these elements are still reflected in their price/demand compared to the mp30 and other cb styles miz made over the years.

I have not seen a set of i200 close to $300. Do not know why are they being recommended. Also, I know some people does not care about buying use, but I would not spend $300 for a set with browned faces.

The OP has so many options to buy new for under $300 that if it was me I would not fold on that. Last year I bought a new set of Cobra F7 in plastic from Global for $212, IIRC. Just waited until they came with their offers. My friend bought a whole new set of MP25 for $280 from Ksouth9 on eBay. Many stories about that seller offering JPX EZ, MP15, MP54 and Hommas very close to that number. Remember when Budget Golf sold Wilson V4 new for under $200? Patience is key.

So I decided on a set of ping s56s. These seemed in pretty good condition for their age and had the correct length and I think I can get ping to adjust the lie angle a couple degrees for me. They also have the x100 shafts I have been wanting to try.

I would have loved a set of i200 but they are just out of my price range. I think the 56 will be more forgiving than the mp69 yet still off that workability I need for shot shaping. Paid 275 shipped for the set.

Nice! Good get and even better that they are close to your specs. I'm just upset you beat my iron set find by $2. Enjoy them, they look great!

Good choice and great iron. Most have not mentioned this but if the s56's don't pan out and your looking for an iron that is similar but a touch more forgiving, look at the i25's. I have played these for the last 4 years myself and love the feel and playability of them. They can work the ball and play many different types of shots. The 3 & 4 irons have a bit of offset to them but I find this doesn't affect the playability at all, but YMMV? Enjoy the s56's, they are a great iron and will last you a long time, very well made club! And Congrats on the newborn.

I picked up my MP64's for $300, used, in great shape. Stick with Mizuno regardless.

I know that the OP found his set but for any lurkers out there the Wilson V4 is tough to beat for the price. 90% of the V6 performance for 30% of the price.
