Wedges - anyone have a cheap wedge that they love?

Original Cleveland 588 wedges are hard to beat.

That they are, a game changer for me years ago and until recently, were my go to. Testing the Mizuno S-18's, look so close and feel so much softer. Only a few rounds so far but I'm liking the results. There are plenty of good/great condition 588's out there, that would be my pick.

Wedges are very, very personal. One you find one that works, that you really like, buy a few when the price drops. That’s my strategy anyway. I’m good for the next 5 years, at least.

i've collected quite a few vokey SM4 wedges for some reason. My favorite is my 54* wedge... it took forever for something to dislodge it from its place in my bag. It's now in my backup/travel set.

I've got a few old Cleveland 588 wedges in various models that are still my among my favorites. These are in no better shape than the same ones you can get for under $20 all over the used marketplace - so they have some decent wear. I'm not a stickler when it comes to pristine grooves, so a wedge can last me a long time. I've been known to use a carbide tool to refresh grooves a bit. I don't compete officially anymore, so having "conforming grooves" isn't a concern to me.

for me it's the ping tour gorge 56° ws wedge. it just suits my game

My buddy games the Wilson harmonized wedges and loves them, 29.99 a piece brand new at GT.

 

Check your local shops for trade ins, I've been looking to upgrade my gap and sand from my set wedges, went into GT Monday night, found a 50 and 54 Mizuno mp-t5 in immaculate shape for 60 a piece, grabbed both had em re gripped there super nice, very happy.

Nothing I have ever tried works better than these. I have the 50* W, 57* SW, and this guy. Old, cheap, indestructible, and very effective.

 

 

I'm constantly putting mine back in the bag. While I really like my NIke VR, Callaway Vintage, Snake Eyes 685BX, Ken Mochi, and Epon GAS1 Forged wedges, the Eye2+ SW and LW are still my favorite. The sand wedge is practically automatic for me to get out of a bunker. I honestly don't know why I don't try a whole set of the irons.

As eagle1997 stated, and I agree completely, wedges are very personal. They should be clubs you like the look and feel of, and trust. So my advice would be to encourage you to steer clear of the "off-brand' wedges and go with the proven designs/makers, even if it means buying one, or two, that is used until you figure out what you really like.

My Eye 2s are still in the bag. I have a nice set of G400 and G25 irons gathering dust.

Buy a used Callaway Xforged Vintage. They are great.

 

This. I have 50, 56 and 60 and a few new ones in reserve. The 50 I bought used for about $25 shipped. Best $25 I've ever spent.

S18 ftw. Can pick them up barley used on the bay for 60-80 bucks. Forged + great feel and good spin.
