Srixon 585 irons

Interested in hearing reviews and comparisons of this line, please. Are they less forgiving than 565's?

For those that "hate" the looks, we heard you loud and clear in the release threads. Please keep this to performance comparisons and reviews.

They are outstanding. What's amazing is how closely the 785's look in comparison. If you were handed both at address, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. Gave me confidence to hit the 785 short irons very well. I'm thinking about a 20* U85, 5-6 585, 7-AW 785.

Hi All,

Also looking for some feedback. Currently play 6-9 585; P-AW 785 and I must say I think I've found the perfect set! I'm an 8.5 but inconsistent ball striker (do everything ok, nothing bad).

But being the clubho that I am (and like most of us on this forum) I want a new set!!!!

Thinking about going 6-7 585 and 8-AW 785 but my worries are:

1. the 585 vt soles are just too big. I know the tech behind it but the sole looks big compared the the old ones.

2. the 785 look smaller than the 765's. I'm afraid I'll be losing out on forgiveness, distance and turf interaction.

I understand what srixon has done...make the gap between 685 and 785 more significant but I'm afraid as a result, the set I want may not match what I need.

Any thoughts?

Just posted something similar in the Tour & Pre-Release forum, but I have found the 765 and 785 to be pretty similar in forgiveness and distance. The short irons (what you are asking about) look different between the two sets with the 785 having more square lines vs the rounded lines of the 765. I prefer the look of the short irons on the 785 much more but obviously YMMV. They are a bit more compact looking (even if the performance is similar) and since confidence is a bit part of it, this could matter to you, but my guess would be that they will perform similarly.

U85s are a lot thicker on the sole for sure. Best to demo both?! Been hitting the 785s vs. 919T, very close and pretty much splitting hairs. Both feel great, comes down to lofts, look and v-sole performance in the turf vs. 919Ts.

Currently in Ping i200s and keep telling myself I don't need to change but those 785s.... If they play as good as they look.... (sorry, mentioned looks)

The 785s and maybe the Bridgestone Tour B X are the only ones that could maybe tease me if I suddenly found 700 or 800 quid under the bed....

Prefer 565s to 585s in looks but reviews I've seen say the 585s play well

Just had them in my hands, didn't hit them though. Great looking irons.

Given the looks and apparently little offset for the Kindle of irons they are I am going to test them. 785s did not impressed me that much probably cause they looked more as expected

Huge fan of the Z585 but was really disappointed with Srixon custom build options. When adjusting club lengths, they don't swingweight accordingly. For example, If I order 1/2" short, their answer to a D1 swingweight request is get a lighter grip; otherwise my clubs are showing up at C8.

C'mon Srixon, love your stuff but need to up your custom build game. Get some weighted heads or start using some tip weights if you really want to compete with the big OEMs.

They are doing a Q&A on here tomorrow. That's a good question for it.

I've been meaning to get my clubs loft and lie checked, and well as to get the SW checked.

I love my clubs, but something makes me feel like they're not quite right, as well as the fact that they were SO back ordered last year, it took me two months to get my irons.

So Srixon does not take swing weight requests?

They take the request, though the order will say "D2 SW if possible". My 565's last year arrived 1/2" longer than spec (hard stepped mistake), and the swing weights varied. I chopped them down, and added lead tape as needed. After a 6 week initial wait, I did not want to deal with shipping them back. Srixon is producing great sticks. It just seems like some in the industry are trending to not cater to the 1% WRX crowd.

What would be the pros/cons of the 585 long irons vs the U85 utilities?

I have a U45 and the 565 irons.

I found that felt very similar, but sounded a tiny bit diferent, hollow vs cavity back.

I would say, if you didn't want the height of the utility, save your money and get the irons.

The only thing is, i haven't tried the utility out of the rough, where i think the club might be more difficult to hit out of vs the iron.
