Garmin: "No Courses Nearby"

Recommended Posts

Two different courses, standing on the first tee box I'm receiving this message.

Has anyone run into this situation? And if so, were you able to get it corrected?

Garmin S6 by the way. One that have used on each of these courses many times.

Have tried resetting the watch. And hooked it up to Garmin Connect which says software is current.

At a loss for ideas and I've sold all my newer units?

I had it happen once (maybe twice). Shortly after a course update. Going back to Garmin Express and forcing a reload/reinstall of the courses fixed it for me. After a sync, below where it says you are up-to-date, hit the link for "Course Options" and you should be given the option to reinstall.

If that doesn't work, call up Garmin C.S.

My S6 sometimes that’s longer to link to the satellites to know location. Now I turn it on about 5 minutes from the course with it on the dashboard. So when I get to the course it usually knows my location and course. Then I recheck it before I leave the range so it has time to reboot if it lost the signal. Typically occurs on real cloudy days.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks Stuart.

What were the weather conditions? I have a Bushnell watch and typically from the time I hit the “play golf” button it takes a minute or two for the nearest courses to display. However on heavy cloud days it may take ten minutes or more. Once it didnt respond until the second hole. Before responding to this I tried my watch from home and it took about a minute to display the nearest courses - nearest was about four miles away.

Sorry, late seeing this. Weather conditions were fine.

Just based on my experiences, the Garmin's wont give a "no courses nearby" error until after it's established a location. The error will be different if it couldn't establish a valid gps fix.

Which would lead one to believe its about course data in the watch correct?

Still trying to find an up to date computer I can update my courses.

Correct. Likely some corruption during the installation of the course data.

The computer doesn't necessarily have to be up-to-date, just connected to the internet. The version of Garmin Express might need to be up-to-date but that's easy on any computer (at least any that you have the authority to install software on).

I don't know if there is a way to re-install the course data via the Garmin Connect App - I couldn't find one but that doesn't mean there is not. You could ask Garmin CS.

One of my computers is so old Garmin won’t run on the software version. And the other is a flat out pice of junk (from day one). It tells me to download something so it can run Express, I follow the instructions, and it just loops me back to same place (if you can’t tell, I’m barely able to even use the computer, far from even competent). We were going to try the wife’s Mac but the watch was completely dead (charger at work), so we’ll give it another try this weekend.

Still using S2 (yikes) which hasn’t given this message. Only issue was that a very different, new course design had not been uploaded and as a result the old course yardages were displayed. It was a good thing JP recognized it very early on.

Not unreasonable actually.

Product has been terrific and has proven indispensable really.
