Remember the Cleveland TA 588 Wedges?

How could they not be making these anymore when at one point, they were the best wedges around in the amateur and pro ranks?

 

Besides the grinds, how different and better are the newer models compared to the TA 588s?

 

I still have my 54, 56 and 60 wedges but have also stopped using them for really no reason other than trying new wedges. I thought the 14* bounce on the 56 SW was perfect coupled with the low bounce 60* wedge.

Why you stopped play from Cleveland wedges 588 ??

 

So I play Cleveland wedges for only tournament. I heard new RTX 4 wedges is different than 588 because short neck and shape grind

There are a few places online where you can buy new 588s. And, there's nothing wrong with them if they fit your game.

They were a great wedge. You ask why they stop making them. Titleist Ballat was the best ball at one time also.

 

Pick up some RTX4's, you will be happy.

About a year ago i bought a new old stock 56 TA 588 at a great price.

But was using 54/58 or 59 so let it go.

Soon after i bought a tired 47 or 48 TA and refurbished it and on sold it

to a happy home ! Just another Classic Design that is Iconic, thanks Cleveland!

Look for the 588 wedges with Tour Zip Grooves. They made them for the Tour and were essentially the old heads with legal grooves. You'll feel very comfortable once you get used to the rollout differences between the box grooves and conforming grooves.

The great thing about Cleveland is they don't mess with the head shape. The newer wedges maintain the proportions of the originals. I guess you could say this about other brands but Cleveland does do it well.
